General Carowinds discussion

The only reason I'm not working there this year is because it's so far away from where I live. Maybe one day!!

What's the minimum wage working at Carowinds? Is it just the state minimum wage? Is this a nosy question?

No sir, Mr. Collins. Everyone wants to know what they will be making.
The national minimum wage went up $1 last year, bringing the wage to $7.15 per hour which is your beginners pay for Carowinds in the ride department - ride supervisors get $8 per hour so don't expect to get more than them. If you work entertainment, your pay is $9 an hour- even in between shows during rest periods. I'm told the people in games are given a quarter for every year they return. There is also a higher wage (a dollar or two above the minimum) paid to Park Services - the people who sweep the walkways and clean the restrooms - supervisors.

People don't go to Carowinds just for the food. Nor do they visit just to shop or watch shows. They go because of the biggest draw - the rides. Why ride associates are paid the least of wages is a great mystery to me.

You don't get much more than that and you certainly will not make more than supervisors at $8 per hour - no matter how long you've been there. I don't know why they have to PM you. It's not a secret. They're going to find out sooner or later - for themselves or from other workers. The people deserve to know. If they don't want to work for Carowinds' wages let's save Carowinds' time and theirs.

Here's something to look forward to for all.
It has been announced on televised news media, more than once, "The minimum wage may soon be changing (this year) to $10 per hour. It has already met some opposition that it will hurt small business and some it will, but there are huge conglomerates (business and cooperations) sitting on millions and billions of dollars in their bank accounts. That money needs to be out with the people, giving them greater spending power to stimulate the economy again."

Before you launch your attack at me, these are not my words. I repeat, this is from local news media, reporting on the same people who raised the minimum wage $1 last year.

Thank you so much for all of your PMs with questions and concerns as to where I'm working in the park this year. For those of you who don't know yet, I decided not to return to the park this year but to move on to other business ventures. Before the summer ends, I should also have my second book published.

Thank you again, for all of your kind words, complements, and concerns. You truly made my job in the park, and life after the park, worth every minute of my working there, which led to my being awarded Most Complimented Employee for 2009 and 2010. WOW!

Hi, this will be my first post :P. But me and my twin brother are turning 15 on the 12th and was wondering will it be hard getting a job there if you don't have any work experience previously? Does it help that im homeschooled?

All of the 15 year old positions fill in February and March, so you won't find a position for this season. Just keep your ears open at the beginning of the year and get your application in early. It's pretty easy to get in the door. The one advantage at the start for being homeschooled is your availability. Your "principal" can okay you to work on those education Fridays when everyone else has to go to school. The park is usually scrambling for people on those days. Good luck!

Everything Iheartcarowinds said was right. I really doubt there will be any positions open at this time of the year. 15 year old's can only work certain positions in the park, mainly in restaurants, I think a few merchandise positions as well?(somebody confirm this please) Don't let that discourage you, if you get in and try hard(and produce results) in your first year, you should get rehired and can ask to move to a different department for the next season that you may like more, such as rides (especially Area 1!!!).

I would watch www.jobs4fun.com (Carowinds job website) starting January 1st, the sooner you apply and interview the sooner you get to lock up one of the few 15 year old positions.

I hope you get in and enjoy it! I wish I could have started there that young, you will not find a more fun job with better people around you at your age.
