It looks like Hersheypark is getting another Intamin coaster for 2012. There are now supports at the park which appear to be Intamin supports. There are pics available through Screamscape. Keystone Thrills or The Coaster Critic.

The Coaster Critic's latest status regarding the 2012 coaster:

Hersheypark's 2012 coaster is definitely an Intamin! Check out these supports that were spotted at the park. Thanks to Key Stone Thrills via Coastin' East.

You'll need to go to his Facebook page for the pic.

Also from Screamscape:

If they are getting supports this early, it must be a huge project. Possibly Giga sized?

I love how Hersheypark is stepping it up in the last several years. This was one of my home parks when I was growing up. I lived between Hershey and Dorney park so both were convenient but most of us went to Hershey. It must have been the smell of chocolate.

Hersheypark to unveil 'mystery' ride soon

A Hersheypark official said this week will soon unveil the new attraction that has stirred up so much attention among park fans and visitors in recent months.

"The park will be making a formal announcement in August," said Kathy Burrows, manager of Public Relations for Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Co. in an email.

Burrows said there has been a lot of speculation about the new attraction, especially on the park's Facebook page, where the company has been dropping clues, trying to create interest in the mystery attraction.

But company officials continue to be mum when directly asked about the ride.

In August 2010, Tim Przybylowski, vice president of Century Engineering of Hunt Valley, Md., presented a request to Derry Township's planners for a roller coaster ride that would exceed some of the municipality's zoning requirements, including maximum height.

The ride would be installed in what is known as the Hollow, a low-lying area bisected by the Spring Creek. It is surrounded in part by the wooden Comet and steel SooperDooperLooper coasters. The attraction would rise to a height of 212.2 feet, or 12.2 feet over what is permitted. It will not be the tallest attraction in the amusement park. That title belongs to the Kissing Tower at a height of 330 feet.

Two existing buildings used for catering in the Hollow were removed to make room for the new attraction, and the attraction requires the construction of 32 support columns within the area of a man-made pond on the site.

In April, the company filed for a building permit with the township but contained no significant details about the attraction.

The company now only needs a permit for the ride house, or the place where visitors get on the attraction, according to Charles Emerick, assistant director of Community Development for Derry Township. The company will need to get that permit before it can open the ride in 2012, he said.

The township already has approved the footage and foundation for the attraction, he said.

Alright can we keep all the news and rumors for all things 2012 in this thread.

Dollywood will stay separate since it is a 'local' park and is CONFIRMED getting a large coaster, but yeah don't want too much clutter on the main forum page. Every park, especially parks thousands of miles away don't need their own 'rumor' thread, as this is a simple forum for Carowinds. Thanks guys.

Repost from the threads I closed..

{Rumor}

From Screamscape:

http://www.screamscape.com/html/canada_s_wonderland.htm

2012 - New Attraction - Rumor - (6/27/11) According to the latest pictures posted to CWMania, many more survey markings have been spotted in the picnic area to the east side of Dragon Fire as well as in the employee parking lot.
(6/16/11) Screamscape has heard from a reader that Canada’s Wonderland may be working on adding some kind of new steel coaster, possibly from Intamin, that would feature eight inversions. While the record for inversions globally is ten, an eight inversion coaster would take the record for the most inversions in North America. The ride’s rumored location would have it runnin from the Dragon Fire area over towards the old dolphin theater. While this may be a good idea... I have to admit I’m a bit skeptical myself about this rumor too. So far Cedar Fair has never proven to be ‘inversion” crazy with any of their coaster, so this is a bit out of character. More on this when I find out...

Would be cool to have an 8 inversion or more coaster in our part of the world.

[Rumor For Now}

From Screamscape:

http://www.screamscape.com/html/knott_s_berry_farm.htm

2012 - Giga Coaster - Rumor - (6/27/11) This rumor is a bit out there… so please take it all with a big chunk of salt in case it’s entirely bogus, but I’ve been sent a short list of very impressive stats for what Knott’s next coaster project MIGHT BE. As I said… this is all very out there right now, and if these stats are even close to being true for a possible 2012 project, Knott’s is going to have to start work on this project very soon.
Now, you might be asking yourselves, if the rumor is so wild, why do I post it at all? Simply because the stats match up with what I’ve been hearing about for the past year… that Knott’s was in the process of designing their version of version of Intimidator. This is said to be an Intamin Giga-coaster of the highest degree, with a custom layout inspired by both Intimidator 305 and Millennium Force. In short, Knott’s could be on the verge of building what many might consider to be the best roller coaster in the world.
While I don’t know anything really solid about the layout, it very well could travel throughout quite a bit of the park. Many might recall all those crazy survey markings that appeared throughout about half of the park about a year ago. The overall length of the ride is rumored to be just shy of 6000 feet, putting it just slightly behind Disney’s California Screamin’ coaster in overall length. As for the height… we’re talking about a coaster that could stand just shy of 340 feet with an amazing 85º first drop back down to Earth. As long as the actual height of the first drop was at least 328 feet, I believe the top speed of this coaster would hit at least 100 mph. That would make this ride the tallest and fastest NON-LAUNCHED coaster in the entire world. One for the record books for sure… now if only our crystal ball is clear on this one. Wait and see… wait and see…

Don't see either of these happening to be honest. I went on Colossus at Thorpe Park, an Intamin 10-inversion coaster. It sucked.

Yeah I can imagine how with Intamin's over the shoulder restraints. Mavrick was painful enough, I cant imagine a coaster that slams you into those stupid things nearly a dozen times.

Looks to be a huge addition to the park. Not that I am ever going to be going to Canada's Wonderland anytime soon.

Ooooooh. Pretty coaster :shock:
A Giga for Canada's Wonderland? Wow.

It would seem that Cedar Fair is trying to make them standard in their park empire?

Interesting that they would put in a Giga when just 3 years ago they put in a B&M hyper. Maybe Carowinds will get one in the future too.
