This new land makes you wonder what they are planning to put in 2013.

During lunch at CoasterStock, they mentioned that a holding company was looking to sell the grassy area of land between the parking lot and Carowinds Blvd. in front of Intimidator. This COULD be that.

How would Carowinds not own that before this? I mean they have roads going all over that land and part of it is used for overflow parking. Also that doesnt looke like 61 acres to me. Plus I dont see how they could do much with that other than build a bigger parking lot, which they dont need.

I wonder how much one of those would cost.

Where do you see one road on the highlighted land that I posted? Its even measured out on the top saying 61 acres...

he's talking about the land between the main parking lot and the mall, not the land in the pic you posted.

i mean, what other land could it be? It's even measured in the picture as 61 acres...

Paramount sold the land between the entrance road /season pass parking and the interstate north of the mall some years ago. There was even talk of apartments and offices going in there at one point.

Look it up on the Meck and York GIS maps. There are several smaller SC parcels and one larger one in NC all owned by a Laminar Direct Capital based in Houston, TX. Total these up and you get - wait for it - about 61 acres.

This land certainly jibes with what was said at Coasterstock better than the land behind Hurler, so I'm betting this is the land that was purchased.

Carowinds could definitely use more parking - to better use the current parking lots adjacent to the park. Using the (assumed) new land to re-configure the parking lots, plus making use of that HUGE grassy area you go around to get to the toll plaza, would free up a LOT of land adjacent to the park for expansion. Looking at Google maps I'd guesstimate they could replace 75%-100% of the current parking using those areas if they wanted. Somewhere in there they can put in a hotel, which has been mentioned by CF in the past.

So basically they "push back" the parking lot to the access road and build the park over the previous parking lot? Interesting not having Intimidator being on the edge of the park if they do that.

Looks like it is the area in front of Carowinds between the parking lot, Carowinds Blvd., and I-77 instead of behind Hurler-

Cedar Fair Entertainment Co., which owns Carowinds, announced Monday it has bought land straddling the Carolinas' border for an expansion of the 337-acre park. The property is next to Carowinds' current parking lots and near I-77, according to Cedar Fair spokeswoman Stacy Frole.
