General Carowinds discussion

RiDeWaRrIoR wrote:^ Glad you enjoyed your visit last year. I didnt ride shockwave when I was @ KD just because it didnt look that entertaining to me. I rarely ride vortex, maybe 1 time a year, only because its a B&M  I didnt care for volcano all that much, mainly because of how slow the barrel rolls are and the drop into the brake just sucks, but I really want a launch coaster in our park, and I hope its in the works, we need something different and I really think a launch would be a nice addition. I hope to go to KD again this year, really enjoyed it up there and I would love to go back.

A launcher would make a fine addition to this park, perhaps something along the lines of a BLSC clone could fit right where hurler is?

Hopefully I may be back down that way again to visit family(they live right up the road from the park & you can see the larger rides from their front yard) because I'd love to be able to spend more time there to hit some of the rides I missed the first time around.

I liked backlot stuntcoaster when I had my visit to KI. However, it was not very unique and it was kind of short, if the action theater area was made into a flight of fear type thing......well, thatd be ok.

Id LOVE to see a B&M floorless or dive machine, may just be my #1 wish (besides a eurofighter like dare devil dive)

The whole floorless gimmick wears off after the first few rides even in the front row but I would agree that a floorless,if designed with a good layout would be a great addition to this park.I'd just love to trade ya afterburn for dominator if I could.

I agree. No backlot stunt coaster. I enjoy it, but I'll enjoy it every time I go to KI or KD. We could use something different than that.

Dominator is great, but I'd rather keep afterburn. Dominator gives me a reason to revisit KD.

Backlot Stunt coaster would be perfect for Carowinds now! A ghetto looking coaster for a ghetto looking park (not the people that attend but the lack of trees, water, paint, theming, family rides and most everything else that makes a theme park a nice place to be for everyone)

So, what your basically saying is that you not only think carowinds is a "bad" park (I totally disagree), but you also say that you wish it makes no improvement later. Cedar fair made awesome improvements to this place and it will grow quicker than you know it.

Also, our halloween haunt is one of the only cedar fair parks that makes a great effort not to copy off of knott's scary farm as directly as some others. Only two mazes (Cornstalkers, and the asylum) share the same name as a knotts maze. HOWEVER, they aren't a carbon copy of the knotts version at all.

Super7, I can see how passionate you are about your opinions and observations. I respect that and what you say. I however, wish to ask that the same respect to be shared from you to this community. Please realize no amusement park is perfect by any stretch of the imagination, not even Disney. I believe that I can represent most long-time patrons and community members here when I say there are things we miss and wish we could have back. But we all need to realize that sometimes to move forward towards the future you have to let go some of the things of the past. You may not see it yet but in time you will see: Carowinds is going through a slow phasing face lift and changing its personality at the same time. Think of the park as a kid, it is a late bloomer finally going into that wonderful thing called puberty. CF is working hard as I believe it sees all of the neglected parts of the park (rides, buildings, even operating policies) and it is taking baby steps to perfect the park and restore a new kind of grandeur to the park.

However, the kind of attitude and fury that you speak with is hateful and distasteful. Again it is okay to be passionate! But please be tasteful and respectful of other members of this community. Statements filled with such hatred not only hurt your character and not only the members here but every part of the greater amusement AND theme park industry.

If you really feel so passionate about the "State of The Park", you are more than welcome to build your own amusement/theme park and operate it as you see fit.

Good Day.

Interesting topic. Until the powers-that-be who own Carowinds decided to join the modern age and introduce much-needed attractions like The Intimidator, the park was indeed quite crappy. And what made Carowinds crappy? Lame, outdated rides that are STILL there even after having long passed their prime....i.e. The Hurler, Cyclone, Goldrusher, Thunder Road, Drop Zone, and Vortex. Then there are rides that could have been good, but seem to be down for maintenance more often than they're working....i.e. Nighthawk. And if those things weren't bad enough, the non-thrill rides they have are lamer than local county fair rides. The fact remains that parks like Carowinds simply can't compete with any Six Flags park or Busch Gardens, or anything else. As long as ownership doesn't see fit to make some drastic changes, Carowinds will remain a third rate park. One decent perk that's been gone for some time is that gold season pass holders had once been given 10% discounts on food. Bring that back, for starters.

Carowinds attendance is higher than Six Flags Over Georgia, which oddly has similar outdated rides as does any other SC park. Also, FYI Season pass holders still get 10% off food and gift shops.

Ha! Don't make me laugh. Of all the Six Flags parks I have been to, there has only been one that I thought was run well and I had a truly enjoyable experience at. Just for the record that is isn't Six Flags Magic Mountain but Six Flags Fiesta Texas. I just don't really like Six Flags because they try to take every last dime out of their guest, to the point where it takes away from the experience. Im just glad Carowinds is run by a great company and is making this into a great park.

Attendance doesn't mean much in a discussion like this. Many will still go there because it's the only semi-real theme park within a decent distance. The fact remains, though, that it would still improve Carowinds greatly if they took in some of the outdated rides from a Six Flags because those would still be more welcome change to the things Carowinds has that should have been ripped out 25 years ago. Also I've gotten a season pass to Carowinds (and gone just enough to make the purchase worth the money) each of the past several years, and have not gotten any kind of discount on food in a long time. You ask the employees and they tell you they don't do that anymore.

I've been to two different Six Flags parks, one being Great America out in Chicago, and the other being Great Adventure in NJ. In either case, the roller coasters there were bigger, faster, and far more enjoyable than anything Carowinds has ever had to offer......except now with the addition of Intimidator. Some of those coasters are still running at those Six Flags parks and they're STILL better than the old, rickety, and too brief coasters that makes up most of Carowinds' selection, i.e. Cyclone, Goldrusher, Hurler, Vortex, etc.

I am pleased to see some of the changes that the Cedar Fair people are trying to bring to Carowinds. I think it was a great move to bring in Intimidator, and even the new WindSeeker is a nice change of pace as well. But they've got their work cut out for them and need to remove a lot of the dead wood and give us something better. And by that, I don't necessarily mean only to bring in new coasters. Carowinds has one of your typical county fair rides, the Scrambler......but other places have it with kind of a twist where instead of just running in its usual horizontal pattern, it will go up in the air maybe 10 feet or so. Or, they used to have the "Wild Bull" which I always enjoyed. Bring in more of the non-coaster type rides (better than what they have now) and that will also improve the park.

Hey something I agree with.

"Save on In-Park Dollars
Show your Gold or Platinum Pass to purchase in-park dollars at a 10% discount all season long"
Source: Carowinds.com Season Passes

Available at Upgrade Services which is located just across the bridge in Carowinds Plaza. Carowinds is the only amusement park I have been to since 2006 that I can stay all day and still run out of time to ride all the rides I want. That includes two trips in 2011 and Opening Day this season. That is open to close eating one meal and a snack.
