I'm a big fan of all CF parks Carowinds in my closest park basically in my backyard however I'm a huge Kings Island fan as well and I love all the rides there. I rode SOB with the loop prior to 2007 and post year 2007 after the removal I didn't have any bodily issues. I know of the accidents and constuction issues, but that coaster has been SBNO for what 3yrs now? I hate to see a great record breaker gone; any thought or rumors surface about its fate.

Well when I was there last fall for an event, the PR manager spoke to us and said that the fact that SOB is still standing is proof that they haven't given up on it yet. Of course, we asked him about Texas Giant and he said they have been watching it closely but hadn't decided as of then what direction to head. He said the I-Box track was too new and they wanted to see how it fared for an entire season before they would consider that investment.

With that being said, I have heard rumors that Rocky Mountain Coasters is in talks to install I-Box track on a coaster this year and another coaster next year although no details have been released. I am willing to bet that one of those will be SOB.

That would be AWESOME. I was thinking the same when SFOT first announced the overhaul on Texas Giant. That would be a great investment for SOB and it would def have a chance to stay away from the wrecking ball, however at the same time they would have to go through the whole structure for rebuild its rumored that SOB was built with "BAD" wood and when got inspected by the state of OH, the inspector could literally unscew bolts with his hands which we all know is not possible when they suppose be screwed and tightened with a torch wrench which makes it not possible to uncrew with just hands. So we're looking at structural work and new tracking, just add the loop back in and I'll be a happy camper!!

hahaha, of course he would.....but anyway check this out!! I think you're onto something arby. I was doing some research and reading and decided to read up in coaster critics. They did a review on the Texas Giant and it was rather positive of coarse and it stated the RMC is to build and new coaster and do a RMC overhaul on another we just dont know what coaster, however they did a public poll and guess what coaster got the #1 spot!!

An article I read several months back said that 2013 is suppose to be a big year for Rock Mountain Coasters. The possible coasters to be upgrades are: Rattler at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Colossus at SFMM (although I think that is a little bit further down the road), Mean Streak at Cedar Point, and SOB.

Why is it worth saving? Its not like its some inspired layout with tons of airtime. Texas Giant kind of makes sense since even as a woody it was full of great airtime. But SOB really only does helixes, which are great in between moments but shouldn't have the entire ride based around it. It uses up so much space, I have to think that area could be put to a better use.

And while I like it a lot, take FLIGHT DECK with you, its a pain to walk to the next time zone over just for a spin in its always-empty station.

^Maybe RMC will do something to the layout to make it more exciting. Making a very steep drop and overbanked turns are something they can do to make it more exciting. Im sure there is several other things they can do to the layout to make it better.

If thats the case than Beast should've been gone a long time ago to because it's rough and has no airtime and its layout is purely helixes. Everyone is not for airtime some a just for speed, twists and turns...I say just add the loop back in SOB and a steeper drop ill be happy.

Oh yes I can see the steeper drop and the turns greatly overbanked especially the two helixes

So according to KingsIslandHub there is a tombstone in front of The Beast that says, well read it below. As you can see its dated 2000 -2013. Now being an art and graphic design major, fading can mean 2 things; you can take it as fading out meaning yea Kings Island may scrap this monster record breaker or the 2013 could be fading back in meaning new life new vitatility. What way is 2013 fading to yall to me its fading in, only because i love this coaster and reallt dont wanna see the ride scrapped. I mean what other park has a father and son ride. LOL

I think it is going to get a Rocky Mountain treatment just like Texas Giant. I sure hope so because how awesome would a 200 foot wooden coaster having a real steep drop, over banked turns, being a nice smooth ride, and possibly even having the loop put back in?
