General Carowinds discussion

For the past week i've been looking at things and I'm noticing a pattern i guess we can say. For the past 5 years, most of all the parks own by Cedar Fair's got a Hyper Coaster, Windseeker, and Starlight show. In 2009, KD got a Giga. This year wonderland got a Giga which leaves I believe 2 parks without one, Carowinds and Kings Island. This past year, Carowinds bought 10 acres of land. I'm putting 2 and 2 together here.
On top of this, as far as Kings Island..I think SOB will go bye bye and that will be where their Giga could go.

I could be wrong on this, but what do you guys think? To me it makes since. Also I don't believe the hight of a giga between 300' and 320' would be a problem knowing that our Windseekers stands a little over 300'

I see what you are saying and I would be great with it myself as long as it is a Millenium Force/Leviathan style and not a painful I305 style but I do not see us getting one anytime soon at all to me. Based on discussions on here over the last couple of years, along with what the park does not have, I would say most would agree the thrill coaster the park needs the most is an Intamin (or Mack?) launcher. I think that would win a poll if we were to have one. I could see a GCI woody, a B&M Winger or a B&M floorless dive machine before a giga. Based on the park size, the market and the attendance, I just do not see a similar style coaster to what we just got two years ago (although larger) coming to the park. If I had $25 million to donate to build one I would not choose that simply because I see us needing something else before. Just my 5 cents worth. I like your thinking though.

It was actually 64 acres (may be off by a few) purchased. I could see a giga coming to Carowinds in the future actually. Not sure if it would be the next coaster but not too far off. More likely I would see a B&M Wingrider or GCI woodie coming in.

Also there are a lot of Cedar Fair parks without gigas, some without even hypers. California's Great Adventure, Dorney Park,Knott's, Michigan Adventure, Velleyfair, and Worlds of Fun also don't have a giga. Although out of all of those, it seems like Carowinds is the property that has the most improvements in the future. Don't necisarliy have to build a Millennium Force to make Carowinds the "Cedar Point of the South" as they want to, but it sure does help.

umm, the parking lot is a ridiculous walk to the main gate as it is, the land they purchased is probably atleast twice as far away, do you really think they would build a roller coaster that far away? The land was simply opportunity, they just bought it, they dont know what they are doing with it yet, they may turn around and sell it to another developer, my money is on a hotel.

Wasn't that at one time trhe plan. Carowinds builting a Motel?

SOrry about the mistake on the land...Either way though, Something big is going to go there. My money is on a coaster. Just looking at the pattern they been doing.

I'm not going to try to speculate as to what style of coaster is coming to Carowinds. My gut tells me that there will be a new coaster coming in the next year or two.

Intimidator was a key signature coaster for the park, and from what I can tell, it really boosted attendance at the park. With CF not releasing park specific attendance numbers, it's purely speculation on my part.

Based on that information, as well as press releases and interviews I have listened to from senior park and chain officials, I think the next coaster will be another signature coaster. It's going to be another one they can focus a lot of advertising on and drive more attendance to the park.

I think they will move the parking lot from it's current location to expand the park to where the parking lot is now. Also part of the new land will most likely be a hotel. We will see what they do with it in the next coming years.
