After just watching Leviathan's first test run all I can say is, I want!!! Having one of those would be great for Carowinds.

Was Cedar Point NOT a destination park in the 130 years it operated before Millennium Force? Does Intimiator NOT make Carowinds a destination park?

Smaller rides such as a Giant Frisbee can always be added later.

Is it not important for parks to have a wide variety of rides for a wide variety of people?

Cedar Fair is known for big rollercoasters

But they make up a tiny percentage of the total number of rides there.

Intimidator is awesome, but we also need a Millineum Force.

Clearly the park is in such dire straits without one.

I apologize if I come off harsh, the entire purpose of this thread is to daydream. But to say the park "NEEDS" this like giga coasters grow on trees, rubs me the wrong way.

it would be nice to have a giga and I'm sure we will see one in the future as roller coaster technology advances. As far as actually "NEED"ing anything it would be more flats, something launched, and another woodie (that's actually good).

Yes, Intimidator has made Carowinds more of a destination park, as it is an awesome rollercoaster. But Carowinds needs more major league rides to remain competitive in the travel and tourism industry. Prior to Cedar Fair, Carowinds was a mediocre, minor league park at best, with about 3 good rides - Thunder Road, Top Gun, and Carolina Cyclone. Folks in Raleigh would choose Kings Dominion over Carowinds, just as folks here in Greenville, SC would choose Six Flags in Ga. Things are now starting to change with Intimidator and Windseeker, and hopefully a Giga coaster will be forthcoming. As well as an overall better selection of various thrill rides. And yes, Cedar Point was a destination park before Millineum Force, partially due to a wide selection of big league coasters, including Magnum XL. So I would like to see Carowinds continue in the tradition of America's Rollercoast and build another big coaster. But Giga or not, an overall larger selection of big thrill rides needs to continue to emerge.

The odds of giga at Carowinds are about the same as CGA getting one. Slim to none, the new CEO has already said he is going to focus on family. As far as Cedar Point and good rides, I can count three. Force, Magnum and Blue Streak.

I don't ever recall this. Last I heard, Cedar Fair is attempting to make Carowinds the Cedar Point of the South. Now that of course doesn't literally mean put in a Millennium Force or a Top Thrill Dragster in. I see Carowinds being one really good coaster away from being a great park.

"We are focused on providing the best and highest value in family entertainment in all of our markets," said Ouimet. "Our 2012 capital menu includes a balanced mix of new family attractions and thrill rides, which we are confident will be well-received by our guests. We will also have a few surprises in store for our guests throughout the operating season and hope that each one of them feels they had the 'best-day-of-the-year' with their families and friends when they leave our parks."

Ahhh I didn't see this. Is this talking about all of Cedar Fair in general, or specifically Carowinds?

I couldn't agree more. Build one more big coaster and Carowinds is more competitive as a travel and tourist destination, and becomes a greater park. And I have heard as well that Cedar Fair wants to make Carowinds more like the Cedar Point of the South. Hope they continue in that direction. But focussing on overall family appeal in general doesn't mean they can't build another big roller coaster.

I forsee that coaster coming in the next year or two. After thinking about it, I do not think it will be a giga for one reason. We do not have the space ready for it yet. Maybe once we start using the land we purchased for expansion, we will put a giga in. I think what Carowinds needs to do next coaster wise is tear down the Hurler and put in a GCI woodie.

Exactly! The CEO says he wants to maintain a balance between family attractions AND thrill rides; which means that CF will continue to build the big roller coasters, while still building rides that are geared toward the kids that aren't quite old enough to ride the bigger rides. As far as Carowinds goes, the big coasters will continue to go up, but I look for kiddie land to expand also.

Remember it should not be either or... (huge roller coasters or kiddie rides).

I have an eight year old who wouldn't be caught dead on any of the "kiddie" rides at Carowinds. BUT he's too short for the Carowinds height restrictions.

Carowinds needs rides that "anyone" can enjoy.

Some new green B&M track was spotted in Ohio which appears to be for a Wing Coaster for a park in 2013. I posted a mention of this on a FB page that I run asking where they think it is going. I thought it was interesting that 2 of the first 5 posts mentioned Carowinds. My guess would be for Cedar Point myself as that park has not had a coaster in ages. Just thought I would mention it and see what you guys thought.
