Like I have said before, I will take more trees, more water plus the return of the monorail, large train and chair lift. That is three more rides my small nephews could ride. Plus a help with some shade as well. I am a firm believer in not removing rides and in restoration. I guess that is just the over 40 coming out in me.

Here is another example of what 30 years of growth will do to the Powder Keg Flume area. All that is gone now. I agree Alan, I think the clearing of that land was one of the biggest loss of trees so far in the park's history.

I made a special point of paying attention to the tree coverage while walking around yesterday and actually found several relatively well shaded areas in the park. Funny how you don't really notice these things over many trips until you really start paying attention.

I'll agree with you as well. I have always thought that they needed more trees (what park doesn't), but after visiting this past week for a few days I come to realize that while the park has lots of big shade trees, they are all out of the reach of normal guest areas. Whenever they add something and remove large trees (Windseeker, Intimidator, etc) they always re-landscape with smaller trees that will take decades to get big and provide a good, decent shade. If only they could retain their older trees and relocate them to other guest area when adding new things...

Went to the park last Friday, but haven't been there since last August.

Was the not so shady walk-way near Vortex and Scrambler like that last year? I can't remember...

My husband and I were quick to point out to each other how sad we were to not get the shade we once loved....

The structure that held up all the vines had to be replaced. So they had to cut them all down. Not to worry though, the vines should hopefully be grown back by the beginning of next season.

Ahhhh wasn't completely sure if they did that or replace it. Bottom line though is they had to remove the vines and have them grow back.

I was at the park the day before opening day and the vines were cut back so that they barely came up to the top edge of the sides. Within six weeks they had made their way 1/4 of the way across the arbor on both sides. I suspect by opening day next year the arbor will be providing a lot of the shade that it has in the past and a year after that you won't even know that they had cut back the vines to repaint the structure.

I'm still not sure what all the fuss is about for the park to maintain what they have. I could see if they ripped out the entire arbor. If they hadn't done any maintenance then people would start fussing about the rust on the arbor like they are about Afterburn.

After visiting Carowinds this past weekend, I give it another 3 weeks (mid July) and the tunnel will be completly covered. Speaking of trees, there are plenty around the park along with several shady areas.

It would be nice if there was a tad bit more shade action going on around the Intimidator area, but aside from that I still think that there is quite a bit of shade providing trees in the park.

If you look, there are some young trees they have planted around Intimidator when it opened. Given time, they will be good sized trees for the park.
