General Carowinds discussion

Does anyone think that Carowinds will use Borg Assimilator as their marque attraction for 5 years as they did with TopGun?

As much as I like the Borg, I just can't see the lasting attraction being as long as TopGun. I think Carowinds will realize this and follow up with something else that surpasses both coasters. Hopefully within a couple of years.

I think they would use them together to have that Package thing going on. Ya know like peanut butter and jelly!! Both are good stand alone, but together they work wonders lol lol. Cause personally like many others on here and many others period, Top gun is still the parks signature attraction. BORG is just a special coaster.

I think Top Gun will remain the main attraction.

Top Gun is the most prominently featured ride in the 2004 brochure, as there is a large photo of it right in the middle with the TG logo. The brochure also mentions the ride by name.

I'm sure Top Gun will remain the premier ride at Carowinds long after all the hype about the Borg *** has faded.

I agree with the above postings. Superman Ultimate Flight at Six Flags Over Georgia kinda wore off quickly with me back in 2002. It's still a fun ride and everything but the whole flying coaster concept was new to me back then. After several trips to the park that season, I still preferred rides on Mindbender or Scream Machine over Superman.

Like I said in my media day post. People will not be running to BORG 2-3 years from now. Novelty coasters lose their appeal pretty quickly. Look no further than Vortex for proof. Tog Gun still commands your attention from I-77 and Carowinds Blvd. It is still the king of the park, IMO. An incredible ride with lasting appeal. Until the park builds a hyper coaster, Top Gun will be the star attraction. My opinion of course.

All great points. From a marketing standpoint though Carowinds is looking at the general public who don't realize the difference between a novelty (Standups and Flyers) attraction and TopGun. To most Topgun is a novelty too because it's not your run of the mill sit down coaster.

Also it's clear that TopGun is not being promoted nearly as much as Borg is at this date and time. I think in a year or two if nothing big and new has come to the park then you will see ads/commercials just highlighting several attractions.

While I agree with you, it seems that Vortex is almost still the king of the park to some locals. Everytime I go it seems like there are always people who still think Vortex is the greatest thing ever constructed.

LOL, Yes, I have over heard these people. Ask them what other coasters they have ridden and you will probably get an answer like "Well, I've only been to Carowinds....duh huh, duh huh....."

It's quite evident to anyone with common sense though. Just look at the lines to Vortex during the week.

Again, I hate sounding so negative. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love the park. And Vortex really isn't all that bad. In fact, the new paint job makes it look almost rideable now.

My point exactly, the GP have no idea about the gimmicks of standups and flyers.

LOL!

Ask any 40-year old Carolinian about Carowinds and the first thing they say is White Lightnin'! Then Thunder Road...

Vortex is not the best thing ever constructed at PC, but the extra speed it has picked up this year and the new paint have made it worth riding it.

The best part of Vortex was last year when on the last turn on the left side of the car, you would come so close to the water. Too bad the water level has dropped this year and you don't get that experience.

Even with a possible new Hyper Coaster coming i think TG will still be the Number 1 ride because since i work at TG most people i talk to say they went from Borg to here and still think its the better ride WHICH IT IS LOL but the point is Top Gun truthfully put Carowinds on the map

Well, that hardly makes sense. They can't rate a ride we don't even have yet.....

Although there is a lot of hype with Borg and Top Gun, They are the Top coasters in the park. All the hype will fade sooner or later. I do remember when Vortex first opened. (Early 90's) It was Marketed as The First Stand up Coaster in the Carolinas etc. Everyone still enjoys it, but Top Gun and Borg have overshadowed it's glory. 10 or 20 years down the road when the Trackless coaster is released then Top Gun and Borg will be just like Vortex. The Coaster that everyone enjoys riding that was once part of the HYPE.

Now being one of the Insiders. I have talked with Guests and I ask them he Same thing. Which do you enjoy better? TG? or BA?. Right now I have got more TG votes than BA Votes. At the same time BA has not been 100% yet. I do intend to continue to ask park guests and getting thier opinion through out the year.

Carowinds loves to market coasters using "ONLY ONE IN THE CAROLINAS".
That is LAME!!!!!! They are assuming that the Carolinas are just FULL of amusement parks and nya, nya, nya, we have the only one....That is so patronizing to me. Do they really think we are THAT clueless?

Well guess what. We also have the only Mine Train in the Carolinas. And 12 years later, we still have the ONLY stand-up coaster in the Carolinas (and always will). The list goes on & on & on.

Marketing in this manner is absurd I say! But sadly, it's their only tool! The park needs a coaster that can be marketed "LARGEST ON THE EAST COAST". Or I would even settle for "LARGEST IN THE SOUTH!"

Then, they may raise some eyebrows......including mine.
G'day
