As we all know Dinosaurs Alive is officially on it's way to Carowinds, got me thinking, would I rather have DA or absolutely nothing? I thought about adding a "Dinosaurs Alive for free" option, but didn't want it to run away with a win.

Everything about the idea of Dinosaurs Alive just makes me angry, so I of course chose nothing. (Paintjobs for Ricochet and Afterburn would be nice however)

Nothing, it may cost the removal of Road Rally which is still a popular ride and AFX which only needs a new motion based film. Add to that, a similar attraction is at the NC Zoo until mid-November. It seems like a low repeatably attraction to me a

I dont know if the zoo is getting rid of the dinos or just closing it for the rest of the year but if they get rid of it we know where the dino are coming from and where they have been.

Here is the press release from the NC Zoo.
http://www.nczoo.org/newsroom/PressRele ... ticle.html
It is whats refered to as a Traveling Exhibit, however the Zoo now says it will close Nov. 30th. After tbe Zoo(or the owner of exhibit) packs everything up, it will shipped to the location to display it. Chances are Cedar Fair also has a long term lease agreement with Dinosaurs Unearthed. A million dollars sounds a little cheap for construction of walkways, foundations, shipping, lease cost, etc. Carowinds is advertising 32 dinos. I predict by 2018, Dinosaurs Alive will alittle more than forgotten attraction.

EDIT: Dinosaurs Unearthed is NOT the company behind Dinosaurs at the NC Zoo.

I chose nothing. Primarily because rumors say that road rally is being taken out. If they can put it somewhere and not have to remove existing rides then I'm ok with it. Especially if they have the same deal with the manufacturer that other Cedar Fair parks do - the upcharge proceeds go to the manufacturer and not the park but the majority of the capital investment is being provided by the manufacturer.

As long as DA makes Carowinds money for their next big investment, then I am okay with it. Hopefully it will be successful.

If you don't like the idea of us getting DA, it quite simple, don't go in it lol! It will be a success towards the children and smaller audiences who are not quite ready for Intimidator in my opinion. I'm glad we are getting DA, and I will try it out and see how it is. Another question though, will we be getting the film in the action theater?

Thank you Captain Obvious. :D

Well for some people it doesn't seem like it is that obvious of a choice. They would rather just complain about it.

I've seen lots of people on the Carowinds facebook page say the same thing; "if you don't like it don't go" and it kind of really annoys me. I've been a season pass holder for 12 straight years, and next year will make 13. I feel it's kind of insulting to me they they just want another 5 dollars out of my pocket. I already refuse to buy food, drinks, or merchandise because all the prices are so high. They could at least added something else (doesn't have to be big) and have DA on the side.

Am I just a schmuck?

The space where it is going could be put to much better use. I think I am more rational than most people, knowing that amusement parks aren't only about coasters, they need a well rounded collection of rides, like kiddie rides, water rides, flats and so on. I was rooting very hard for a Planet Snoopy expansion like Kings Dominion is getting, and I think kids would have enjoyed that more than a bunch of non-anamatronic dinosaurs (most of them DON'T move) with lengthy plaques to read from. It would have been free too.

Here is a picture set from the Kings Island right after their DA opened in 2011, keep in mind we will have half of the number of dinos that KI does. Link.

Does this look like a worthwhile capital investment for an amusement park?

No J. Not to mention dear old dads and moms that have to shell out another average of 20 bucks, for very little entertainment, for some fiberglass and plastic. I have no problem with this exhibit, in fact I encourage it, at your local zoo. Kids need to know all they can about dinosaurs. Just not having Afterburn whizzing around you, which might be a little distracting..

Oh, was I supposed to vote on this poll or something?

I'm not a hater, guys, so don't come after me. Ride ON!

I'm okay with Dinosaurs Alive! I've got two kids that might be interested next year. And if not, then they probably will be when they're a little older.

I see what everyone's saying about repeat-ability, but I have to think that Cedar Fair's done the numbers on these attractions. Especially since they've already seen how several of them have performed already. Sure, your average family might only do it in 2013 and not do it again for years. But, what if they're expecting to see a considerable amount of revenue come in from all of the area schools that will make DA a field trip destination for the next decade?

Like picklesthedrummer said, I'm down with anything that'll (hopefully) generate money for the park's next major ride - a launch coaster in 2016 :)

Well this is a message board to discuss what's happening at Carowinds.
