General Carowinds discussion

There have been a few rumors floating around about Cedar Fair retiring several of their Arrow Dynamic looping coasters. Mainly states that Kings Island would be removing Vortex and Kings Dominion would be removing Anaconda in the near future. There is also a rumor of Cedar Fair removing several others including our very own Carolina Cyclone. Although I usually don't jump at every rumor I hear, this one sounds legit to me. I hope it isn't since I really like several of these rides. What does everyone else think of this?

I went to KD back in July, and thoroughly enjoyed Anaconda. I thought it was much smoother than Cyclone. Sure it does take up a huge space, but it really feels like the perfect ride for the location. Plus KD has lots more space to expand without getting rid of it.

That is a good point. It might not be removed for another 10 years or so. Vortex is one of my favorite Arrow Dynamics coasters so I would hate to see it go.

Cyclone is still a great ride that will be around for several more years in my opinion. It fit's perfect in its location. It's smoother than its other brothers at other parks. I do feel the Vekoma trains can help these Arrow coasters out a bit as well(wishdul thinking). As far as Anaconda at Kings Dominion, it's theming is nice and all, but it is way toooooooo rough. Goodbye Anaconda.

I agree with the crowd here. I think Carolina Cyclone is good for several more years for sure due to reasons a couple of you have mentioned. I do feel it will be leaving though but that is at least 4-5 years or more out. I am not a fan of all of any ride removal as I have expressed before. Even though it is a bit rough, my 6 year old nephew will be tall enough to ride it in 2013 so I will have to learn to love it once again:)

My question is if it is removed, what could replace it that would be better? Cyclone is one of my favorites that is in the park so like many of you, I would be sad to see it go anytime soon.

Nothing in my opinion, considering the relativity small footprint it takes up, unless they used their storage space behind it. But still, Cyclone just hold too special a place in my heart.

A compact launch coaster?

Right before Cedar Fair bought Carowinds and it's sisters there was a VERY strong rumor that Cyclone was to be removed and replaced with Flight of Fear from Kings Dominion. Lots could be done with that space, you just have to get creative.

Also completely off topic but I didn't feel it warranted a new one; Google Maps now has an updated satellite photo of Carowinds from August of this year, complete with WindSeeker. Check it out.

This is an idea that I would would go for. I loved Flight Of Fear when I rode it over the summer. Carowinds could use a launch desperately.

A launch coaster is what Carowinds needs most it seems, or at least most requested. Flight of Fear still takes up a big footprint so a ride similar would have to have the maintenance area behind to be moved. I just imagine a launch coaster to be in a different location. But as for now, keep Cyclone.

Fun fact- the move of FoF was put to a halt when CF purchased the parks. It wasn't a rumor, and its why Carowinds didn't get a new ride that year. CF instead decided to remove my beloved Hypersonic.
