When they finally tackle the long overdue waterpark expansion, they need a separate entrance for it and separate admission.

We need a planet snoopy/flat ride expansion more than anything else, and I think it is possible for 2014. They really should concentrate on that before another coaster.

So what exactly is the height limit for carowinds? Does anyone know?

That's another thing that would be fun to have there, a strata coaster......Kings Island doesn't even have a strata coaster though at this point......

As long as it's something FUN like Intimidator or Afterburn. I just wish Vortex was better. That ride is so freaking short I couldn't believe the difference when I rode Chang. Hard to believe Vortex is over 20 years old!

It's been a long time since I've been on Hurler, but I never minded it. I thought it was kind of a fun little ride even though it's rough.....Wouldn't it be great if Carowinds got a wooden coaster like Voyage. OMG that coaster is soo much fun.

Well, for one, two of the three parks that have gigacoasters are the chains two highest attended. And why build such an expensive coaster to a park that doesn't have any close competition, like the third park that got one? They can spend much less and get a higher return on investment with a cheaper coaster.

TL;DR - I wouldn't mind a waterpark expansion, but don't halfass it like everything else lately.

Yes, I totally agree. We NEED more slides. And flats.

Interesting but perhaps the reason for attendance are attractions. Did Intimidator help increase Carowinds attendance? I can only find theme park attendance for top 20. People from all over the US go to Cedar Point just because of the attractions (namely big coasters)

I just thought of another question. When did people first start seeing construction on Intimidator.....? Was it going on DURING the 2009 Spring opening? Or did it start after the 2009 season ?

The Log Flume was removed before the 2009 season. "Construction" is such an odd term to use since from about March to June was all land prep. A construction diary was kept here.

I will guarantee however, that Carowinds' next coaster will be nowhere near the size of Intimidator.

Nighthawk started land prep in July and actual construction in August or September. That would be more on pace with their next coaster I think.

That has been discussed previously. Based on FAA regulations and its distance from the airport, the height limit for anything at Carowinds is 2000 feet or more. I don't see them building anything near that height in the near or distant future so height shouldn't be an issue.

I do predict a major investment for 2014.

I'm geared to believe that Carowinds will get a coaster in 2015. What type I don't know I am hoping for a launcher like maverick or cheetah hunt just a little bit more thrilling of course. I see maybe more park improvements or of course like I've been ranting for sometime now a maxxair or some type flat ride or snoopy expansion in 2014. It's clear a gig is nowhere near sight right now first if you notice all the rides that are 200-340ft are in SC with the exception of xtreme skyflyer. The only way I see a giga is if they total rip up the parking lot and move it and I could be wrong Cedar Fair have no problem with building rides in closer proximity or on top of each other cedar point is a prime example I love when a coaster intertwines with another coaster other than itself God I love that park lol and again I could be wrong I'm just geared to more flats for big people and some for snoopy. Also I think someone ask why would CF build any similar ride such as a giga or wing at carowinds? I'd say we'd be the only park in the south with them which would draw people in especially from the southern states. Just my opinion :)

It's not. At least it doesn't account for that much of an increase. Cedar Point is a destination park in a destination area. It's not just an amusement park in a city like Carowinds is. And as for Canada's Wonderland, being the highest attended regional park, they're getting a return on their investment by keeping the people that already come coming. There is a finite amount of people that are going to go to any amusement park. Canada's Wonderland and Cedar Point draw from a larger group than Carowinds does and they're much different parks in different situations.

Did Intimidator help increase Carowinds attendance?

Not enough for them to be in the top five most attended parks in the country. Again, it keeps people coming, and added a few.

I can only find theme park attendance for top 20. People from all over the US go to Cedar Point just because of the attractions (namely big coasters)

That's partially right. But CP is on the beach, in an area with lots of other touristy stuff to do. It's a destination park. Carowinds is a regional park with no close competition. They don't need to build a giga-coaster to keep attendance high, and building one isn't likely to cause enough of a spike in attendance to justify the cost.

And let's not get into 'If you build it, they will come' and say that if they build it, people will flock to it. Because that sent Six Flags into bankruptcy.

I know I went there in '09 and there was definitely construction, on the first turn that is basically in the parking lot.

Interesting - if that's the case it almost makes you wonder why Carowinds (Cedar Fair) even built intimidator. What's the point, if it's just a regional park with no close competition and no other touristy stuff?
