General Carowinds discussion

Even though I have not been to Carowinds in the past 3 years.....I've notice that a lot of people still complain about the long line and time for Nighthawk. I've been looking at Nighthawk with Google Earth, Is it possible to modify the track and station into a dual station like Firehawk? This would allow the park to add another train maybe 2 trains if they had a block brake right before the lift hill which will then allow loading and unloading a lot quicker which would reduce the wait time. What I don't know is if Vekoma is still making this style of coaster anymore. Of course, this could be a costly thing for the park to do, but the benefits they will get out of it will be great.

Also, I don't know if they are still there or not (Again, haven't been there for a while) but maybe remove the old Borg Assimilator sign(s) with some new ones?

I'm sure Vekoma would still make one if someone wanted, but now that B&M is in the game why would you choose anything else?

And even if it did have 2 stations, you have to have the people fast enough to do it, and the operations willing to use it enough, and I'm not sure Carowinds has either one of those things.

And even if everything came together, it is still a Vekoma ride and would likely malfunction constantly.

I never hear about Batwing or Firehawk using both stations efficiently and doubt Carowinds would be any different.

I don't think that Vekoma makes those anymore, as Nighthawk is one of only 3 in the world. (I think)

It was also the first flying coaster in the world. Sorry, I just love saying that knowing Carowinds has it!

Vekoma still offers them in their product line. Nobody has purchased a regular flyer from them because they're not in high demand.

It would likely cost too much for a double station, and the 3 flying coasters that have that don't even use the 2nd loading area. Well, I think Firehawk does now, but I'm not 100% on that. I know Superman at oG doesn't and Batwing doesn't.

It was originally located at California's Great America, but was removed to build Boomerang Bay. There are only 3 Flying Dutchman models in the world (all in America), and they are: Batwing @ Six Flags America, Firehawk @ Kings Island, and our very own Nighthawk.

I've had the unfortunate experience of riding all three of them. KI and SFA both have a second loading station but only one station has been in use during my visits.

Is ours the best, do you think?

I agree. Batwing is much better. X Flight was but I haven't ridden it at KI. I passed.

I agree. I hate the ride actually. I only ride it now if I am in the park with someone who has never been to the park or has never been on Nighthawk. I cannot stand the flip after the top of the lift hill as I am not a fan of having all of my weight upside down on restraints. I feel the same way about Southern Star as well. I DO think it is one of the most striking and most beautiful rides in the park though. I love the way you walk right under it. Duane (rcdb) has told me a couple of times now that when he was in California during media day when it first opened that he loved it. Thought it was very smooth when it was new. As I will say with any steel coaster, give me B&M any day. I am 45 now so I need smooth and not rattly and painful.
