The underground cable flags are by the visitor bridge parking strip, although the strays out in the parking field and by Drop Zone seem random or unrelated. There could be more in the field as the aerial photo above indicates, but I didn't see them. I felt like enough of an idiot taking pictures of survey/utility paint dots, which are quite numerous (and colorful) by the entrance and stretch as far as mid-Planet Snoopy.

So as not to litter this thread, and if you care to go wild geese and/or dot hunting go here..

Jonathan wrote:I doubt they are going to pave over that field for parking either. It would be a bizarre project. The park already has a massive parking lot that I have never seen filled even on the busiest days of the year. If they wanted to do premium parking as Screamscape suggested they could just use the current season passholder lot or mark off the area of the current parking lot that is closest to the gate for it. Parking is very expensive to construct and maintain, so I don't see what the benefit would be of such a project. Unless it is part of a long-term plan to expand the park into parts of the current parking lot, but that doesn't seem very feasible given the layout of the park.

They have an premuim parking lot, it is the first few rows at North Gate. With such a broad area, it may just be a utilities upgrade or building a new season pass center since the old one has closed. Season pass processing is now in the Plantation House.

Seems like I read/heard somewhere that the government on the NC side of the park makes it damn near impossible to add a coaster with all of the regulations they have to jump through. It's easier to build on the SC side which is why they get Intimidator, Nighthawk, Top Gun, Windseeker, etc. and the NC side gets paint jobs and a boomerang.

I mean, aside from Carolina Cobra, the last coaster added to the NC side was Ricochet in 2002 and even then "the powers that be" gave the park grief about the cars not stopping in the station and made them change the loading procedure so they would.

Ricochet isnt the only Mack Wild Mouse that the cars stop in the station. There are six coasters in SC and 5 in NC, plus Thunder Road(Inspected by SC) and Goldrusher(Inspected by NC), South C. gave money for Intimidator to be built but I imagine they put new rides where they have space for them.

Well, that explains a lot.

I did hear once that the rides on the nc side are safer though.

They fed us in the Rose Room for Coasting for Kids. It is only a small portion of the former season pass processing building. If I'm mistaken, it only feels like about 1/4 of the building is that room.

I think they still have season pass processing in that building but they set up what appears to be a portable single station for season pass processing right now in the Plantation House. I think that is only temporary.

I will say this. Regardless what is going on, renovations, new rides, whatever I am flat out totally against any removal of the 40 year old entrance. The park has not done the best job of preserving history by removing a lot of classic rides like the train, the sky ride, all three car rides, the monorail, a classic coaster, tons of water and so much more. The last thing we need is something else with historical significance to be removed. I guess my age and nostalgia is getting the best of me.

The regular season pass processing was open today. Maybe they were doing some work in the building previously and had it temporarily closed.

But, back on track. I looked at Wormy's pictures and wasn't able to wrap my mind around the scope of the project so I headed out there today. There is clearly something big going on. All of the orange dots are survey stakes. The three purple ones are two trees and one power pole that were marked with blue and pink tape so they seem to indicate something. I added the green dotted line as a probably extension of the yellow. I didn't see utilities marked there until I realized the blue at the bottom of the picture were probably water. ;) The numbers correspond to the pictures with that number.
