construction is suppose to begin in 2014, they didnt say when in 2014. most of us are expecting construction early in 2014 but chances are it could be after the 2014 park season. meaning, nothing new for next year.

They could mean after the New Year? Sometime in January maybe?

With this big recent announcement by Cedar Fair does anyone think that Carowinds might announce what is going on in 2015 when they announce what would be new in 2014 assuming next year we will be getting mainly minor improvements like more pavers, Afterburn being painted and stuff like that? Just curious if anyone might be thinking the same thing I am?

I feel they have to give Carowinds something more than just infrastructure for 2014; a flat, a slide, -something. Infrastructure don't sell passes alone. 2013 was a throw-away and 2012 was not something that got people excited. I still can't believe they gave us a lame South of the Boarder up charge attraction and called it the day. It didn't even cost the park anything. If they would have put it in a remote wooded area, and made it free that would have been a little more interesting.

Considering the cheapest option for a gold pass is now $81 (and you must buy 4), it appears they are getting ready for the $50 million investment. I would also predict we at least get a flat or something to justify the price increase.

DISCLAIMER: I, personally, don't need anything new next year. The $50 million investment over the next 3 years shows me Cedar Fair's commitment to the park more than a simple flat would. Unfortunately, I don't think the general public thinks the same.

If someone doesn't have real personality, they're going to be boring. Busch Gardens Williamsburg is a prime example of a park with real atmosphere. It's like you're transported into another world. If all parks were simply just about rides, there wouldn't be much of a reason to visit other parks, because they would all feel the same.

Very much agreed! I love the atmosphere at Busch Gardens, it was amazing and probably my favorite park out of all the ones I have been to which are Kings Dominion, Kings Island, Cedar Point, Kennywood, Universal, Disney, and Dollywood. Busch Gardens and Dollywood are definately my personal favorites for atmosphere because they are just beautiful parks. I love rides just as much as the next person, but you have to understand, not EVERYONE is a fan of fast thrilling rides. Carowinds can definately use a makeover in many areas and its about to happen. The park will be totally different in 3 years. Atmosphere is definitely a reason for people to visit a park not everyone is a coaster enthusiast. The improvements are going to do nothing but help the park in many ways and attendance will definitely increase within the next few years.

(I may regret asking this ) What would you consider a "record breaking water park"??

I am suprised by the $80.00+ charge for a 2014 pass. Just 2 years ago the same pass $59.99 if you bought early. We went from 4 passes to 2 this year and with these prices we might not even buy for 2014. Our family has had season passes since 1998. Investments in the park are great. However, why raise the prices now if they are going to take place over the next 3 years? Love to hear feedback.

I, personally, could no longer justify the price of a season pass at any cedar fair park anymore. With the flex pay of universal and sea world parks and the added perks, I have since migrated to that option. I pay 13.75 per month for all sea world parks (sea worlds in texas, california and florida...busch gardens in tampa and williamsburg...all aquaticas near their respective sea worlds...adventure island and water country USA...even sesame place! Not to mention I get free parking and in park discounts. With my universal pass I pay about 25 a month and that gets me free VALET parking, free one night Halloween Horror Nights ticket (thats a value of 92 dollars itself!) Hotel discounts, free (after 4pm) front of the line access, free water, 30% discounts on the hotels...just a whole lot when you look at it.

I can just do two trips to universal a year and to sea world parks (since orlando has both of them) and my pass is def paid for...I guess getting scarowinds for free is a good option especially if you are a local but I cant justify paying 3-4 dollars less a month for just one SEASONAL park, 6-7 months of operations, when I can get so much more for just a few bucks.

They need to announce something decent and worth getting excited about for 2014. I didn't think Dinosaurs Alive was worth renewing my season pass in 2013 as I saw it at Cedar Point in 2012. I appreciate the investment announcement but until I see something worthwhile, I may continue to hold out on buying season passes.

I think the least carowinds could do to get people excited for 2014 is to make a flat by intimidator but a little bit more would be nice.
