General Carowinds discussion

A few other words were said at C3 about paint that I think I heard correctly, probably safe to share:

Afterburn still sports the original '99 paint job, which presumably would have lasted even longer had it been applied within six months after fab and primer for best results, but the parts might have sat up at the plant longer than that before application.

However, it was (and remains) a priority under the current staff to transform the overall color in the park from the drab gray and earth tones it inherited to the brighter, happier, more visually striking color palette you see today. An analogy was made: if you were to visit a hospital with the best doctors, equipment, staff and success record, but noticed the paint peeling on the walls, it wouldn't leave the correct impression. The park prides themselves on maintenance well above industry standards, and feels that should be reflected in appearance as well. As for the currently planned paint scheme, well…

I think they're dead on. I noticed it this year at Cedar Point as did the others that I was with. The park just flat out looked nicer. It felt more like what an amusement park is supposed to be like. It was more pleasant to be there. I'm glad Cedar Fair gets this because not everyone does. Six Flags Great Adventure is horrifying when it comes to maintaining an appearance and I really think it has a significant negative impact on the experience.

Now paint Thunder Road white. :D

I would almost rather it be inverted (pun), red supports, and blue track with white stripe, just so there isn't another red coaster track coaster.

Exactly and I HATE IT!! I was already not liking the fact of having two coasters with red track; now 3? That is not the business at all! If they repaint it the same scheme it will still be bright. The silver track had a reflective type paint so when the sun hits it it looked highly polished that's bright for me lol. I say leave the same scheme, it goes with the theming of a fighter jet.

I completely agree. Its (imo) the best woodie in the park and it deserves to stand out.
I've seen how great Rebel Yell looks in white, and old Carowinds pics of Thunder Road.

It'd look phenomenal. I just hope they change their mind and actually do it after the rest of the rehab is done.
Right now it's just multi-colored wood, like every other woodie at Carowinds. (Except Woodstock Express).

Honestly, I'm fine with Afterburn sporting the Patriot colors. The red track doesn't bother me. The over all dominant colors would be blue, because of the large supports. Vortex and Intimidator both also have red track, and are B&M's, but they seem darker-toned. The blue supports are brighter and just looks better imo, judging by Patriot's color-scheme. Although White track with a red stripe would be better, keeping the blue supports.

And the red, white, and blue definitely suits Afterburn's theme.
America, Fighter Jets, Air Force, Military, etc. It fits it well, but I don't think anyones arguing againts them.

But since "they" read this forum, I urge them to change their mind and:
PAINT THUNDER ROAD WHITE!!

Not that they haven't been bugged enough. Lol.
