I am dropping my kids and some of their friends off at the park and will pick them up later. Is there a way to do this without paying for parking? I don't know how far it is from the parking gate to the park entrance.

Yes, just enter in as you would normally but stay in the LEFTMOST lane. There is a sign and a pull through right before the parking booths.
