Wormy, we need to investigate the possibility of 2 more monorail footers where I drew the blue arrows. They look like good candidates.

Anyone know when the mall was built? Is it possible the sale of that land came with easement rights for the monorail and the rights expired? Instead of renewing the rights, Carowinds elected to remove the monorail. What I find odd is that the monorail lasted 21 seasons.

I'm assuming this parking lot was the proposed spot for the resort and that's why the monorail made the 'U' shape out towards I-77?

When I worked at Carowinds, I remember going into the administration building's mail room many times where there was original framed art on the floor leaning up against the big copier... One was the drawing of a hotel with the monorail coming out from the middle. Looked pretty cool.

If you remember, they used to have Jallopies on the bottom floor and the monorail on the 2nd floor of the building.  It was torn down for Vortex, Vortex's que is about where the monorail building was.

The Jalopy cars were run on the Speedway track after the Jalopie ride was closed. Definitely was the case in 1988. It was when KECO managed the park and things were starting to get shoddy during that time period.

The Monorail, Sternwheeler and railroad should have never been removed. They are all true family rides in the Disney definition that anyone can ride, something that Carowinds definitely lacks. The monorail was an interesting ride because you got to see the almost the whole park during the ride. It gave a very unique view of White Lightnin' looping above the trees. Hershey still has their 1 station monorail and its very popular.

I'm guessing since the Plaza Fiesta has been torn down and everything demolished, these footers are goners as well. Can anyone verify if they are still there?

This one's still out there by its lonesome.

After checking last year, it was the only one left out there. And it's far back enough against the interstate that it could stay. If there was a trace of any others, they're sure as heck gone now.

I guess it's safe to say that will never happen now...
At least we have a nice new closer parking lot.
