Who here misses Christmas at Carowinds? So sad that it's gone. Carowinds is in a warm enough climate where the park can be open in the winter. Anyways, I had an idea that I'd like to share: Carollinds Christmas Spectacular.

Here is how I would re-do the Christmas show at Carowinds:

Attractions & Shows
-Lights are on from Starlight Spectacular
-Horse Carriage rides around the park
-Christmas Parade
-Santa's Workshop (this would be inside a building)
-Meet Santa
-"A Christmas Caroll" show in the Carowinds Theater
-"A Charlie Brown Christmas" play in the Peanuts Showplace theater
-Polar Express 3D movie (action theater) with action seats
-Polar Express soundtrack throughout the park
-fake snow
-Carollinds merchandise in stores

Please leave any thoughts or comments. Don't forget to vote in the poll.

^ what you gonna do, sit on the bench and watch the movie... Carowinds Christmas was a fail, and its not likely it will ever come back, but it was fun while it lasted, the one year they had it.

Do they still put the Christmas tree lights on the Sky Tower? That is pretty cool as it is a giant Christmas tree. And I remember back when Jim and Tammy had the Christmas City every year at Heritage USA. That was very popular back in the day, but I don't think Carowinds could do a drive thru version like that.

I was there for the "first try." It was called Winterfest then. It happened to be one of the coldest Decembers on record in Charlotte. I loved it and enjoyed working it. It was beautiful with the "original" colonial - look shops in Plantation Square. Guests absolutely LOVED the live show in Harmony Hall (a perfect setting for that type of show). However, I will tell you the year round managers and staffers HATED it. They were used to a slow work schedule and being able to basically come and go as they pleased in November and December. They didn't want to do it in the first place and certainly didn't encourage doing it again.

I visited the second try. It was nice... but lacked attractions. It seemed more sterile that what I remembered from Winterfest. I considered it a "nice try," but I personally thought it was too expensive for what was there. I was hopeful they would "learn" and adjust the price and add attractions the next year-- but as we know that next year didn't happen. I contend any attempt to do this would have to be a multi-year plan... to get guests in the habit. It's hard to squeeze another thing in for families during December... so it would take a couple of years for word of mouth to spread (assuming it would be good word of mouth). That's what the Charlotte Motor Speedway did-- the first year of the drive thru lights they offered all kinds of "cheap" tickets (groupons, newspaper coupons, etc). Those "cheap" promotions got people to go the first time... and now the crowds are fairly decent without deep discounts. Plus, they've added more to it each year.
