I do! Besides it's something fun for the kids to enjoy.
However after riding Intimidator for the first time,
The rest of the park was ruined for me. After intimidator, the first drop on cyclone (and thunderroad) felt like a car
Going down a hill. If the trains were redesigned to match cobra, I think more people might just ride it. However
If Carowinds decides to remove it, they are going to have a fun time doing that. I noticed that the track isn't bolted to the supports, it looks like they were welded. I highly dought it can be saved and reused after
Removal, it looks like the removal will mess it up pretty bad.

I was 7 when I first rode the Cyclone. It was my first ever coaster I went on to go upside down. I do agree that it needs those Vekoma boomerang trains to take away the head banging. The coaster would be even better without head banging.

What else? Oh yeah, Vortex Definetly needs new trains. The park needs to take away the hump in between your legs it hurts so much! I think the new harness should have a strap that holds you in place instead of the hump. That strap would be so much less painful. If they can't do that, please put floorless trains on it. I don't want to see the Vortex go. It was the first B&M coaster at Carowinds at of the 3 (soon to be 4).

That looks like primer, I was at Carowinds couple weeks ago and the loop supports were blue. We parked at South Gate, poor Afterburn has rust spreading on parts of the track, was starting to look like SFKK'S Greased Lightning.

Also, the fighter jet wasn't attached to the support. I'm hoping that they just removed it temporally and plan to put it back when they're done with the repaint next season.

I think the ride would look great all in all black like Flight Deck (ugh, I hate that name) at California's Great America. The color might not be bright or stand out, but the colors would still look great. Or Black and blue. Black track and blue supports would look great!

New for 2014! Afterburn will have a bran new camouflage paint job! The ride will be retheamed to John Deer the ride! In all seriousness, IF it was possible to have a coaster out in the woods, a camouflage paint job with orange supports could work!

That would be awesome! A launch coaster through the woods, so that way it can be more of a low to the ground through the trees kinda coaster... What would it be called?


Back to afterburns painting, I am glad I got a few pictures of it in its condition, just to compare before and after. I am just wondering if the name will remain the same, I guess so since it wasnt mentioned it would change. I am just eager to see how its going to turn out. I really wish they would get some new restraints or put the last cars backwards or something, just to make the ride even better after bringing it back to life with new paint. A whole new theme would be cool, but I like the theme of a fighter jet etc. i just think the "afterburn" name is a little old now.... as long as it doesn't become flight deck...

Since their major crowds are now during Scarowinds, (can't see details in the dark) they're going ahead with scraping off old paint and throwing primer on. It's not uncommon since its quite a big job, and plus there will be days in the winter when they can't paint, so the more they do now the better.

If Carowinds is really planning on repainting afterburn, does anyone know what color it will be? Will it be red, white and blue? I hope not. There is enough red in the park already. How about teal? It's a shade of green! We haven't had a green coaster since Nighthawk and Runaway Reptar (Flying Ace Aerial Chase). Sure, maybe it looks like the stinger but it's still pretty good (in my opinion).

I deleted some posts which had name calling in them, that will certainly not be tolerated on this message board.

But tarheel, if you went back and read through the thread including the first post as well as thread title you would see that they are planning to paint it red with a white stripe, with blue supports, like Patriot at Worlds of Fun. Here is a picture of Patriot for comparison

^Thank you for showing me. I actually did another picture of Afterburn post-paint job and I have to say, it looks awesome with the new colors. I just hope this shade of red is brighter than Intimidator so it will still stand out.
