I assumed they'd be doing that anyway, with the platation house either within the entrance, or moved to a new location.

I'd like to see the plantation house enclosed and put at the circular area beyond Afterburn, where the South Gate currently is. Since they are closing that entrance, they could use that are as a "blast to the past", with a museum (inside the plantation house), and some other small vintage rethemed shops, etc.

So if they tear it down, how will they convert it into a giftshop/exit?
It will be broken chunks of wood and brick.

And I really don't think moving the plantation house would be that expensive. Demolition and clearing the rubble would be just as costly.
That being said I think they'll utilize I where it is, and expand out, in fron of the current gate.

First was a statement followed by a suggestion, thats why there is "." Between the two. Ever seen a house moved, I have.
It has to lifted off it's foundation by a series of jacks on top of which go wood blocks to maintain level, the house has everything below the floor joist left behind, a foundation is constructed. The Plantation has no wooden floor joists on the first floor, concrete weighs alot more than wood, furthermore a giant hole would have to be Carefully dug under the building. It aint like the Riverboat, they cant just hire a crane to move it. Which brings up another two points:
1) Carowinds wanted to keep the riverboat, Paramount Parks would add the repairs to the budget.
2) A former Carowinds GM expressed interested to me about the riverboat and possibly building replica. (This was before he was made GM at Carowinds and I was guest at the time.) Do you see a replica of the Riverboat, I don't.

If the Plantation House is not part of plans for the future in the spot is sits now, it will not be standing. It would be cheaper to build a replica but is Carowinds going to spend money on an attraction that isnt going to attract visitor? I am sorry, Carowinds is no more a museum than Disneyland which is turning a quiet spot in the park into something that can generate revenue. Will I be sad to see an icon of the park go away (if it happens)? Yes. Do I realize Carowinds has to change to keep generating revenue? Yes.

History is to be remember but when it stands in the way of progress, it is normally history itself.

I wonder how the new front gate would look then...... I've never been a fan of it history or not. I really love Six Flags over Georgia's front gate:

In my opinion, something like this would fit in better with a roman Centurion theme.

I like Magic Kingdoms, I even "like" SFoG's. But as for which I think would fit at Carowinds best?

The more modern Cedar Point entrance gets my vote.

unless the new gate comes with a coaster going over top, I say keep the old gate. The ticket booths though, look like porta jons etc need to be replaced and moved to the side out of the view of the main entrance. But all of this is moot, Cedar Fair already knows what they are doing and I have a feeling the house is history.

Southern Architecture was heavily by Roman and Greek Architecture, so there is a possible connection betweek "Centurion" and Carolina. Our version of a Gatekeeper in my mind, however instead of messing with the plantation house. Why not have it go through a "Centry Towers" nearby to function as the "keyholes" but at the bottom be new admission ticket booths.

There's already a (non-Roman) connection between "Centurion" and the Carolinas.

North Carolina "first in flight" and Centurion Aviation Services, a type of plane manufacturing company in Fayettevill NC, as well as a type of aircraft.

Although I really do think its going to be themed to a Roman guard "Centurion", not a plane or 100 years, as others have suggested.
