^Seriously? There are a large number of people who don't want or can't stay at a campground. And a hotel will hold many more people and attract a larger audience from further away. I wouldn't say no to an expanded campground but a hotel is a 'must have' if Carowinds wishes to become a 'destination' park.
As for the mall I think it's pretty absurd to say it's a 'waste of space.' Ever since the remodel into Plaza Fiesta a few years ago, the mall always has seemed packed when I go to Carowinds. It's a cool place to go not far from the park, with some different and much cheaper food options. Also it's bad for all the small businesses that litter the mall. Where are these stands supposed to go? The last thing North Carolina needs is more unemployment.
If Carowinds DOES intend to buy it, it would be stupid to tear it down. They could put a hotel on the side and maybe create some sort of indoor waterpark or some other mixed use development. Lots of options here other than a wrecking ball.
