Has the net in front of the Immelman on TG been there forever. I think I can remember times from 1999 when it wasn't there. Did they really need to add it because somebody was in the wrong place at the wrong time and got hit by a shoe or someting? I think it really takes away from the whole "ride experience" on TG. Expecially in th front row.

And I just know that Coasterbruh is going to post something really nasty in this topic... <_<

No, I don't think the net was always there. I remember it not being there in 1998. The downside is the sense of mid air freedom, but it does give a good sense of speed. They have a net at the bottom of Borgs first drop too, doesn't that take away from the sense of being 115 feet in the air? But saftey is 1 at carowinds. Even if it seems exagerated. Edit: (Looking at post below) Guess I didn't remember right.

I wouldn't know if it's always been there, but it has since I've been visiting the park. BGW also has a net on Alpie's Immelman. I don't mind it, and I'd rather have a net in the way than get whacked in the head with a random hunk of junk like a shoe or something.

First off, 1998? The ride was built in 1999...so the nets definitely weren't there in 1998. Second, when the ride was first built, they didn't have any nets. I live 5 min. down the road from Carowinds, so I used to spend a lot of time there in my youth; I went every weekend the park was open when Top Gun was first built, and it wasn't for a good few weeks that they added the nets. I remember the best part without the nets was the dive under the pathway. It really only makes a slight difference when you are watching the ride. When you are riding it, it really didn't change the ride at all.

Yes it has been there ever since the ride has opened it is a safety device that makes sure shoes do not hit people in the walkway thats all it is for

I remember it not being there that year either........come to think of it, i remember the whole coaster not being there in 1998!!

Seriously the net wasnt always part of TG it came later on in that season or the following season.

Take off the net, why not take off everyother safety method off the coasters, besides who needs restraints. Seems to me that twistye gots it!!

And I just know that Coasterbruh is going to post something really nasty in this topic...

Oh yeah, sorry, I just forgot what year it was built. I would go with Carowindsman about the net, he runs the ride after all.

If you go to Carowinds website and watch the video of Top Gun, pause it at about 5 seconds and you can see the immelmann without the net. I was trying to find pictures of the ride without the nets, but alas, I can't.

I clearly remember the net not being there in 1999 and then them adding it in 2000, what I was really asking was if anybody got hit by objects flying out of people's pockets. They could at least cut the size of the net down, besides, it goes almost all the way up the immelman!

Sure Coasterbruh, lets take off all the saftey equiptment on every single coaster in the world, in fact, why don't they even add a jump on TG where the hill over the station is now. You can ride it first.

If i understood what the he........heck you were trying to say then i would come back with a snapy comment...................

Carowindsman may "run" but does that mean he knows everything about it. And w/ that said......wait, whats this a picture of TG operating on a regular operating day WITHOUT the net..........how can that be since the coaster supposely open w/ it?!?!

LOL, thanks for re-airing my photo bruh! That photo was taken on media day March 16th, 1999. The net in front of the Immelman was added within 2 weeks of that photo.

Nahhhh...he'd never do anything like that. Bruh, I was gonna make a nasty comment about Lurch losing something on the ride but I'll PM ya :)

Heck if anybody knows more about Top Gun, its me and Swampie. Its like our kid! We watched it grow from a pile of track to the fine strapping young man that it is now.

Does anybody ever use periods any more? I'm seeing more candidates for Run-on Sentences of the Year! Guys, it makes your posts easier to read (and capitals help too.)

Duke, I'm with ya! I miss the Whirling Dervish too!
