I honestly think it just depends on where you are. Yes 200 miles seems more likely but you'd be surprised how many people in Florida (especially Orlando) know about Carowinds. That's pretty much the same for every park.

That's because they drive by Carowinds on their way to Florida/Orlando and see the park as they drive by *without* a giant sign.

Carowinds is a household name around 400 miles in any direction.

400 miles might be stretching it. 200 sounds like a more plausible target for the park. There is no the average household will know what or where Carowinds is if they live in Cincinnatti or Louisville. The idea of Carowinds being a household name in Cincinnatti or Sandusky is laughable at best. Heck, I'm betting when the Sandusky register printed the release about Cedar Fair investing $50m in Carowinds the locals up there had no idea such a park existed, let alone it being a sister park to Cedar Point and Kings Island.

Yes 200 miles is a more reasonable expectation for a regional park such as Carowinds. People in Raleigh may choose to visit Kings Dominion or Busch Gardens Va. instead of Carowinds. Here in Greenville, SC you may choose Six Flags Ga. or Dollywood. And if you are in Ohio, then certainly you will choose Cedar Point or Kings Island. Mainly Cedar Point, the Florida parks, and Magic Mtn. seem to be destination parks. Including also the Disney parks on both coasts. But I am certainly glad to see Cedar Fair upgrading the attractions at Carowinds, as I am looking forward to the 300ft rollercoaster. This will help Carowinds become the park of choice within the 200 mile region, along with other planned upgrades and attractions.

Why not lift the current sign up onto two columns between the parking lot entrance and exit? Boom, big sign:

Anyways, I agree with the people who say that our park doesn't need a big sign to show that our park exists. Especially when you can see the park from 10 miles away if you get close enough to that range. Besides, the thing that will start bringing in more visitors is the topic this thread is all about: the $50 million 3 year expansion. With the water slides and new coaster coming in the near future, who needs a big sign? Carowinds will become the Cedar Point of the southeast and the ultimate thrill capital of all parks in the region.

400 miles easily. That doesn't even reach the end of the state. Mid-Tenny, upper Florida, Washington. Sounds legit to me since all other Parks randomly mock our park. Seems too legit to discard.

Agreed! What is the big deal about a sign? I don't get it... Everything is fine just the way it is IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if the sign does get a makeover in the coming years with the updates and expansions though...

Hopefully they paint the Skythingy. Maybe a yellow? Metallic Gold? Carolina Blue and Black (Panthers)?
Or do you think it will keep its rusty earth tone that they are allegedly trying to rid the park of?
