Good points on both sides here. I'm personally biased and sentimental over the place, but by and large this forum has been a friend to Plaza Fiesta over the years, so this is a fitting tribute of sorts. Sad to see it go.

I am for this. I don't know if people shopping at Cabela's are the same folks who frequent the park. Anyhow, I can see a dad dropping the kids off at the park and hanging out in Cabela's for a while, so that's good.

Cabela's is usually a tourist destination. Think like Bass Pro Shops is but larger scale but since there is already several other similar stores in the area ....Bass Pro, Gander Mountain, etc, this may be why Cabela's chose to build a smaller store here. They are also building 2 other stores in Greenville, SC and the Raleigh area so the store will likely only draw from locals and people traveling on I-77.

Well this is some crazy news. I wonder when they will close down for good, or has that already happened? A few weeks ago when I drove by the park, it was still open.... I would like to take my kids back to play again before it closes down.... This is going to make a mess of traffic at the park.... Wonder how they will work it out? I guess it might not be to bad until summer when the park is open all week long... hopefully the first few months they will work extra hard during the week so when summer comes, it wont be so bad. I am sure it will be alright. As far as them building a Cabela's, well not really what I would have hoped for, but it will be nice and I think it will draw a lot of attention for sure. I have never been to a Cablea's just looked at the magazines and ordered online. Should be interesting for sure.

Way more than a hunting store...

'Cabela’s sells hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, boating and wildlife-watching gear, as well as clothing and outdoor-themed gifts and furnishings.'

'The operation will feature a mountain replica, aquarium, museum-quality wildlife displays, indoor archery range and deli. A full-service boat shop and a selection of wildlife and land management products — including tractors, attachments and implements — will be offered'

This will be a tourist attraction in itself. Hopefully Carowinds will do some long-awaited improvements to the exits. Back when the park opened, you could exit onto Avenue of the Carolinas from much further back, near where the preferred parking is now. It makes way more sense to create an exit further back as not to compete directly with the Mall traffic exiting and so close to the light. Seems I read somewhere that Cedar Fair was going to do some improvement in that area. This would be a good time to get a plan in place.

Yeah, that is my only complaint about this - the Cabela's will likely draw a LOT more traffic that Plaza Fiesta and that front Carowinds entrance is a mess anyway. Adding another entrance exit somewhere else would be beneficial IMO.

Well I happen to love hunting and fishing and think this is awesome. Plaza fiesta kinda turned into a dump anyway.

As of a couple of months and a few hours ago:

Bet Cabela's doesn't have ceviche or beef tongue tacos. Or a Zamperla. Sigh.
