Honestly, TR is outdated. I'd love to see Thunder Road be taken out, and have a coaster like that in it's place... You could have the coaster's layout go into the parking lot beside where TR stands now, and at the turnaround end where TR is, you could have room for another water ride or restaurant even for the water park.

WHAAAT???!?! Thunder Road IS Carowinds. A park icon. I just wished they raced all the time and still ran one side backwards.

Latest (July) edition. Nothing to see online unless you subscribe or pick it up, but I don't know - still relevant?

Thunder Road is perfect! The end.

... But, let's see what RMC might do for Colossus. Could improve the experience while still keeping an iconic ride in the park?

I was going to post about that cover Wormy, but it seems to have slipped my mind. Being in the "industry" I've already read the article. It kind of glosses over Thunder Road's history, and seems to talk more about the author's history with moonshine. At least Uncle Jerry gets a mention. I may be able to obtain some copies though if anyone wants one...

As for Thunder Road, they just retracked the whole thing as part of a multi-year project. It's (thankfully) not going anywhere. We don't need to be going the Six Flags route, tearing down every wooden coaster.

This would be the perfect photo if it's racing counterpart was in it. :-/

Well it is a North Carolina magazine, and that is the North Carolina side of Thunder Road isn't it?

I gotta think Cedar Fair is much too smart to tear down Thunder Road, I truly believe you'd upset some park visitors who'd never come back.

Why does everyone want TR to go? TR is a great little wooden coaster, especially after they retracked 80% of it. That last section though is brutal.

Hey, I read that article!

I would hate to see it go. Sure, it could use some more work (specifically on the last few hills before the brakes) but its a park icon!

By the way, they were racing on Saturday morning...

I don't think many want it to go at all.

Its a landmark for the state and an icon. I genuinely hope and believe it will always have a home at Carowinds, even if it gets major reconstruction in the future that changes the rider experience. (Not saying it will, but I personally think that's where a lot of older coasters are headed).
