General Carowinds discussion

I see people doing it all the time. It's a small piece of land. When they need it to be used by something else they will.

Otherwise, why bother tearing it out if it's making any money, especially since they've likely already got their return on the initial investment? Tearing it out and replacing it costs money too. They're more likely to leave it be till they move on to bigger plans.

I don't disagree with your business model for the most part but you have to think bigger than, hey if it's already paid for why tear it out if its making money. You tear it out to build something that will yield a bigger return on investment. Nobody is coming to Carowinds to play putt putt. The area is big enough to put something creative there, and it doesn't have to be a ride. Again, I haven't seen a substantial amount of anyone (more than a few people) using this in years.

Some of you act like they need to improve everything right now.

I'm sure there are better uses of the land. I'm sure they know that. They're adding a 30 million dollar coaster next year. They're in the midst of adding new food options. Apparently they feel that DA and the golf course are not worth removing at this time.

Why remove or replace just because when money is being made or at the very least not being lost?

Trust, if DA or golf were losing money, they wouldn't be there right now. The company just announced a 1% increase. Not a loss.

So until they're ready, those attractions will be left alone till they're ready to put in something else.

Simple as that. If there was something better to put there now that fit in with their direction for the park, they'd be putting it there.

Okay, you're completely 100% right and I am completely 100% wrong. Sorry to waist your time with my irrational theories on Theme Park Economics.

By the way, when you lumped me in with "some of you act like they need to improve everything right now" you assume that I disapprove of DA. I never mentioned anything about it. I have no idea how much money it makes as it's harder to judge the volume of people moving through it. I do know though that my 6 year old daughter could put up a lemonade stand on that small piece of property that's home to your glorious putt putt course and turn a bigger profit than it does. Maybe if CF would have upgraded that site a few years ago when it became stagnant and all the other little areas around their chain just like this one they would have experienced growth at a pace greater than 1%.

Just my two cents. No need to reply though Edwardo, I get it. You are the expert!

I don't think Eduardo said you were completely wrong. He just stated his opinion. He also never said the putt putt was glorious...just that they would replace it when they were ready to. I bet a year or so ago, people were griping about the waste of prime space where the go carts were...and look at them (or the lack of them!) now. It's just a matter of time and a matter of priorities. If they tore up the whole park all at once, people would gripe about that, too.

Thanks Tawny :-).

Loco, three things:

If you can't accept that people are going to disagree on an Internet forum and can't deal with an opposing opinion, perhaps the internet isn't right for you.

There's no need to quote the entire post that's right above yours. It takes up space and everyone here can figure out who you're replying too.

From a personal opinion I think P.S. is on the map of upgrades / additions. So is the water park. So are the flats we need.

With Carowinds being so far behind the other major parks in the form of attractions I am sure C.F. has a little more than a 5 year plan. Seeing how it was stated that we could be the Cedar Point of the South you have to sit back and compare our park to the other big players.

With all they have done so far this year and are continually doing I see many, many years of improvements and additions. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what C.F. thinks the biggest bang for their buck will be.

As for D.A. I am not a fan but it seems to be making money for them and as for the Putt Putt I agree it should go but if they would make one on the scale of the many courses at Myrtle Beach then I could see a lot of money generated from that.

I've been around this site from day one. I get how it works!

Don't preach to me about the internet, I'm a grown man and know how it works.

You said 3 things.....I only count two. Can we agree on that?

If you'll look at my original reply to your post, you'll see I agreed with most of your comments, just not when it came to the putt putt.

I dont get it...some people complain that carowinds isn't a full day park. But then they complain about people wasting their times on things like dino alive and the putt putt! Not everyone fancy's roller coasters...not every one fancy's bumper cars. Im GLAD carowinds has something for EVERYONE...even if we dont see someone always using it. I dont ever see someone eating at chick fila on sunday...should they remove it?

Apples and Oranges Jarvis. I'm sure Chick Fil A more than makes up for it Mon-Sat. I do think that building should have been used for something else though. I'm not sure why it's not opened on Sundays though. If they were sticking to corporate policy then they should do that with their prices as well.
