General Carowinds discussion

With that said, though... the net thing does kind of suggest a 'big' hornet that can't be easily caught... someone a few pages back suggested that the 'coliseum' clues, along with 'we can't name it the Charlotte Coliseum someone already did that' were hinting towards the old 'hive' that was the Hornets (misnamed) home for years...

How about this. Fury 325 kind of suggests it too. Carowinds wouldn't be trademarking the Charlotte Hornets name, because of course the trademark is already owned... but they could call it

"Hornets Fury 325"... it could have the Charlotte Hornets logo, with "Fury 325" after it... which would be trademarked... and is...

Just more guessing of course. The name kind of fits.

Hornet's Fury is a reasonable guess. But i would not expect them to use the NBA logo. That would make it more historic to the region, and not tie it to a professional team which has up and down periods. One of the biggest mistakes made at Carowinds was naming a section Wayne's World. That franchise had no legs for the long haul.

chknwing wrote:Maybe its not hornet theme persay but the name is the same as a hornet. Like Hugos Fury. It would be a hurricane themed ride but the teaser is trying to to give you the name by teasing hornets aka Hugo the hornet.

That could work. Considering Hugo was an epic event for NC & SC, tearing a path up the middle of the state. Didn't Hugo cause the park some damage as well? I've always thought Hurricane Hugo would be a good name for a ride at Carowinds. Enough years has passed so folk would not be too upset by using that for an amusement park ride.

I agree. I feel CF would not be willing to pay the NBA licensing fee. Not even sure if the league would even allow it for something they did not control. But there is nothing that prevents them from using a hornet theme and using the colors.

Curious how CF plans to approach the LeBron James situation at Cedar Point. They said they would rename a coaster after him there if he returned to Ohio. Seems like there would be some NBA licensing concerns if they did that. If so, then they are not beyond using the Hornets NBA theme in some way.

I don't think the NBA owns anything that is LeBron the individual. Same with Jordon. Of course they own the jersey.

The park was kind enough to give us some invites to the announcement to send out to some Carowinds Connection members, so there will be a good CC representation. It was difficult choosing who to invite, and I wish that we could have invited everyone, but it sounds like the park is trying to stream it so the rest of us (including me) can enjoy it while hanging out here and overloading the forum on August 21.

two weeks ago at cedar point it was 90.00. Needless to say I didnt get one...How much is it at carowinds?

I hope it never comes...

FamousAmos wrote:But still, wouldn't that be a cool way to reveal the track?

As long as it can be hoisted 100 ft in the air, remove the sheet and im on top of it in a one legged speedo and a cape. then do a triple back somersault and land in the ashes of the carolina sternwheeler...that would be cool!

I hope the announcement is better than Intimidators. That was a huge ride announcement and there just wasnt any energy for the announcement. 20 secs of ride announcement, the rest was just introducing people etc.

I'm happy for you Jonathan, it will be a record breaking day for the site. As all of you know, the chatter across the web about this is crazy. The entire country and even the world will be looking. The basic question being, 'will this ride topple the height records long held by SD and MF?'

I think they will do better. They have the HW event of a few weeks back to top. Judging from all the crazy teasers, I feel they will make the announcement an event for the ages. All I ask is that the stream feed be better. Many folk got frustrated with the HW feed. Me, I had to go down to a very choppy low resolution to make it work without cutting out. I'm saying this because I know park officials read this and hopefully this is something they can work on ahead of time.

Ummm... That's how ALL announcements are. This is the first one where I've seen them have an actual meal for people!

ok I guess what I meant to say was the presentation lacked energy. Annoucnemrnt is suppose to get you excited right? Watching the Gatekeeper Announcement , and it has a completly different feel to it.

Also, what are the possibilities that the neon green/yellow paint on that track is glow in the dark paint. How freaking cool would that be.

I dont think the track is as dark as it shown to be in the pics at Clermont

will probably be closer to this

The only reason I don't think it would be 'hugos fury' or 'hornets fury' is that they would have trademarked that.... instead they just trademarked "Fury 325"... if it had to do with the Charlotte Hornets, they wouldn't have been able to trademark the charlotte hornets name, but could trademark the rest of it, "fury 325".
