On my visit to the park Saturday the 25th I noticed the ole lady has been removed. I look everywhere including the back lots and could not find her. When I got home I searched the net to find several topics about her dissapearance and I was shocked and amazed at the attitudes. If she is gone forever I shall miss her but as the future waits for no one or no thing I was happy for the years she had with us.
Does any one officialy know if she is gone forever?
If she is was she torn down or sold?

P.S. This is not an open subject to start slamming Carowinds. Just respect thier choice and move on please.

Perhaps it will return to us some day in the form of retracking on Thunder Road or Hurler. Or firewood. I'd be willing to bet money that none of you gave a rat's behind about the boat when it was in the park and there was no thought of it being removed. Go to Worlds of Adventure. They have a riverboat.

The riverboat may have been just an amusement but was one of the things that made Carowinds, Carowinds and not just another Paramount Park.

Actually I did worry my bum off when I passed by it in the park. Just sitting there, waiting for an unknown doom. Maybe when they do use it to re-track Thunder Road, they'll get off there lazy asses and consider re-painting the coaster to match the Boat's Paint Scheme as well.

The above is an example of how not to type your posts on the forums. Everyone seems to be getting it except you and a few others. If you would simply take the extra 15 seconds to type correctly, then your post would come out as follows:

Ahh. But I am one of few probably that rode her everytime I went to the park. It never was anything amazing but it was nice to pass by the Gold Rusher and wave at the kids riding it. Next year we will just wave at them from the station of out new coaster.

Jonathan, I think you may be a bit brash in your judgement concerning the sternwheeler. Its place as a historical icon of Carowinds is no less important than the entrance plaza building or themed areas such as the "Carolina Boardwalk".

If you recall, the sign for the boat was auctioned as a "memorable peice of history" of Carowinds. Surely you don't presume to suggest that the sign was important but not the icon it identified?

The Carowinds atmosphere is unlike any other park that I know and the Sternwheeler imparts alot to the asthetic aspect of the park as a whole. In a way, it does have a soul.

Well, Alan, I actually agree with everyone about the historical aspect of the boat. What I don't agree on is how everyone seems to think this will ruin Carowinds or something. The only people who really care about the riverboat are likely the people posting on these boards; not 99% of the people cranking through the park gates each year. The Sternwheeler isn't the first historical item to go (that is, *if* it is indeed going, which we still don't have 100% confirmation of), and it won't be the last. We've seen Blackbeard's Revenge, White Lightning, the monorail, the skyway, and countless other former park attractions sacraficed for change; that's the nature of an amusement park.

While It won't "ruin" the park, I doubt Carowinds will ever feel the same again. At least to me, anyway.

And while I'm sure that not everyone will notice it's evan gone, that can be blamed partly on the park.

Carowinds really didn't know what they had with the Carolina. (And apparently didn't ever since the park opened in '73) How many parks have an operable full-scale stearnwheel riverboat replica? The only ones I can think of are the Dinsey Parks. If I was in charge of marketing, I would have made sure that the Boat's picture was on the front of every park brochure and map that ever rolled out of the printers. And that the boat would have been ran everyday, no matter how understaffed the park was.

Oh well.

The riverboat should have been on the front of everything. Carowinds did nelgect their theme, which is why I don't call Carowinds a theme anymore, it is more of an amusement park. My defination of theme park is an amusement park that has many themed areas that all revole around a central theme. That is mine.
