The televangelist Jim Bakker constructed it and later scammed 150,000 people out of their money by convincing them to buy shares in the new hotel, which was never actually finished. If you search for Heritage USA on Google you can find a lot about it. After everything hit the fan Regent Park kept the water park open for a couple years as Carolina Splash. It was a really cool place.

^^^Those are some very good pictures! I've never seen those before.

Heritage USA ws a very nice place to visit. The main street area was beautiful, and there was alot of stuff to do on the property as well.

I've heard that at the time PTL collapsed there were plans for an amusement oriented area with rides and such. I think the water park was probably a reason Carowinds built RipTide Reef to try to get some customers back!

The scandal was most definately an unexpected shock for everyone though...

Same here, why did it close. It looks like it would have been a nice place to visit. You know what, I justy remembered that my theatre teacher used to work at the amphitheater when they put on certain plays. Its a shame that it had to close. Jonathan, I never new that you could see the tower from Carolina Place Mall. I guess you learn something new everday like people say!

Yes it's such a shame it didn't last. Even if it wasn't a Christian resort anymore, it would have been nice.

The water park was much nicer than Carowinds' is.

Also, that "castle" out there, originally was going to be the world's biggest Wendy's, but they pulled out of the deal when the scandal broke.

I loved the water park, and had a season pass for several years.

It looks better than WaterWorks, it is a shame Carowinds doen't buy it and move the WaterWorks out there, we would have more space in the Waterpark, and could it provide a reason for a Monorail.

Monorail..........very good thought.
But I think that park is just too far away.

The Waterpark there beat Waterworks hands down. I really enjoyed the giant wavepool, waterslides, and such. I even liked the Christmas lights they displayed.
