General Carowinds discussion

The comments from the GP on Carowinds' fb page drive me crazy. In particular, all the people that complain about having to pay to park. I think every park I've been to has paid parking. At least at Carowinds we get the perk of free parking with our season pass. Not all parks offer even that.

Are there any major parks that have free parking for everyone?

No corporate parks that I know of, but Knoebels, Holiday World, and many smaller parks have free parking. I guess you could sort of consider Kennywood corporate and it has a free parking lot (and a closer paid lot). Parking is never really "free" anyway, but now we're veering into a completely different topic that is close to my heart, so I'll save that one for another thread.

How much is parking at Carowinds now anyway? At Six Flags Great Adventure it is $25.

It's up to $15. I think it was only $10 last year.

EDIT: I just read all the comments on that Facebook thread that Carowinds posted today. I saw Tawny's name all up and down it, giving people the business. I barely have the patience to deal with the people here, let alone elsewhere, so good on ya for trying to set them straight.

Most of them posting from Facebook would give up all the rides in the park, just to have that glorious season pass holder parking lot back!

They drive me insane. I can't even appreciate the thoughts and statuses of Carowinds because the stupid and negative comments changes my mood so quickly. Sometimes I just want to really let them have it, but Julie knows my face so I'll be good....slightly.

I feel the same way. And it is nice to set the record straight and let off some steam, even if it is at a brick wall of ignorance.

They do need to address the parking issues thou. For scarowinds I would utilize the south gate parking area just so I could sneak out the backway (gold pass parking lot was INSANITY at it's finest... sometimes it would take a hour to get back to the main road.. all it took was people refusing to not block that one intersection).

Now with the fact that we are going to once again become a go to destination for coaster junkies we can begin to expect higher parking volume. Hopefully over the winter they will start to address this.

The exit is more of an issue than actual parking...m

Exiting the park on busy days has been a huge issue for decades. Since CF is obviously bent on making Carowinds a destination, maybe they could entertain the idea of adding an exit further down Carowinds Blvd. There's already an old exit down near the end of Thunder Road where the old entrance to the original water park used to be but that's long since been fenced off to the GP. If they're going to expand the water park down there, they could still put in a new exit only and tie it in to the intersection with Pleasant Road or even Robin Center Drive. They could put in the necessary protocols to keep people from entering that way.

Just curious how many other parks offer a separate season pass holder lot?

Thanks. That's what I thought as well. Every CF park I've been to I had to park with everyone else. As a pass holder, I just got in earlier which is fine with me.

The season pass lot was a nice perk but if you come to a park just for close parking, it's ridiculous, I'd prefer shaded parking over close parking but I doubt that will ever happen. :) Maybe a parking deck? lol.

Honestly, it felt like I walked further from Season Pass parking sometimes last year than most of the times I've parked in the regular lot this year.
I liked the special lot for pass holders, but it's not a deal breaker in park satisfaction for me.
