One of the sections I would like to have for the new site is a section for Visitor's Guides, where readers could find good plans of attack and important things to do that they might not otherwise know. Ideally, I would like many of you to send me your own guides so that I could post a few different ones. These can be done however you want, just try to use good grammar and include everything you feel would be necessary. They will be edited as necessary. Email them to Jonathan at Jonathan-Hawkins.net (Replace the at with @). Thanks in advance for anyone who decides to help out with this.

Jonathan,

This is a great idea. I was logging on myself this morning to start a thread of park tips and advice.

Could we encourage people to leave tips in this thread? This may allow for some debate as well.

I'd like to personally see a list of expected wait times for different months, days and times.

I'll be in the park Friday night and will try to compile some good estimates of wait times. In the mean time, here are a few suggestions:

1) Arrive early or stay late! Shortest lines will be found in the morning or as the park closes. Between 2 and 5pm seems to be the most crowded.

2) Lines to hit before park gets crowded:

Scooby Doo's Haunted Mansion, Road Rally,Paramount Action/FX Theatre and if you don't mind getting wet first thing in the morning Rip Roarin' Rapids, Thornberry's Wild River Adventure, Nick. Super Saturator (slow loader)
Borg (if you are fast on your feet, 1/3 of the park hits this first as well),any rides in the kids list you'd like to hit,Ricochet (slow loader).

3) Fast moving lines:

Hurler, Thunder Road, Carolina Cyclone, Gold Rusher

4) Season pass- If you have one, take advantage of the early entry program.

5) Raining- As long as it's not torrential, go ahead and make the trip. Everyone else stays home leaving the short lines and waits for you.

I haven't been to the water park in years, but will soon as my kids and I have season passes this year for the first time. I'd like to hear suggestions on how to fit the water park in with the remainder of Carowinds. I know there are days you can get into the water park early with season pass and intend to take advantage of that as well.

I did have a guide for the 2002 season, it was almost finished. I deleted it thinking it was not needed. I do have a little guide I can rip from the website I never got up.

View additional ride tips:

Hurler: Different coaster riding in the middle. Try to hit the front of the train or even the back. The middle section jars me everytime I've been on it. My jaws hurt when I rode this past Friday, 6/4/04. Front section is much smoother and more comfortable.

Thunder Road: Backwards is better! Although I'm sure there are some who will tell you differently.

Top Gun: Wait the extra few trains to ride in the front car. Top Gun is a great coaster anywhere you ride but it's twice as good in the front.

My picks for where to sit:

Thunder Road forwards - back row. Often times there is some VERY good air to be had here. Front has a good view and often has some nice floater air, but I like the back.

Thunder Road backwards - either end of the train. The last row used to be a fave as you got some serious air coming off the turnaround drop, but that seems to have been tamed somewhat. Still, sitting there with nothing behind you watching the track fade away is great.

Hurler - to me, always a front car ride. If the line is long for the front seat, you can get nearly the same airtime in the 2nd row, and sometimes I think it's a bit better back there.

Carolina Cyclone - last car, front row. This is the least rough seat on the train, and in the front row you have more legroom. To me it's pretty smooth back there.

Scooby Doo - back 2 rows can give some serious pops of air. It always amazes me this goes as fast as it does with a what, 40 foot lift hill?

Vortex - either front row or back row. I feel more like I'm flying on the front of Vortex than I do on BORG or Top Gun, at least until I smack my head a few times in the corkscrew. While not as noticeable as Top Gun, the back row feels more intense.

Ricochet - not much choice there, and not much difference in the ride.

Saturator - depends on how wet you want to get. Front of the car gets soaked, back isn't as bad. It's a bit easier to spot targets from the front for your water bomb, but the back is great as you can see them getting hit. Hint: in the back, wait til you see the roof of the arcade behind Wings before trying to bomb the line.

Goldrusher - not much difference.

BORG - this one seems a bit smoother the further to the front you go, and it's smoother on the inside 2 seats than on the outboard seats. Plus, you have no say in where you sit, so just go where they tell you :P

Drop Zone - the best view, and usually the best freefall sensation is provided in the car you enter from the far-right queue. You can see almost every coaster in the park, and I always get more of a stomach-dropping sensation in this car vs. the other 3.

Last, but certainly not least - the best seat in the house: Back right corner, yellow Shark train, Top Gun. The front has a great view and is a fun ride, but where TG earns it's high ranking with me is that back right corner. Nice whip in all the inversions, with some VERY strong G-forces on the batwing entry and the flat spin.

The red train is also good back there, but usually feels a tad slower. Another good seat is the back-left corner. It's not quite as intense, but that's the best seat for the first drop.

Yeah but at least the red train gives a smoother ride (IMO anyway)

My 0.02 cents...

1.Get to park a little early so you can be one of the first to get in....
2. Enter at north gate, it's closer to Borg: P
3. When Park opens, run straight for BORG
4. After you get off Borg, go to vortex scince it's right there. Ride as many times as you want cause every time I’ve gone the ride is only about a 10 min wait.
5. Walk over to hurler, ride FRONT ROW!!! You get lots of airtime there (don't ride this too much or you'll regret it)
6. Walk to drop zone, sit where Ken said to sit.
7.if you're willing to wait about 20-30 mins for a ride that lasts about 30 seconds after it gets off the lift hill, then ride Cyclone next..(Same as Hurler, don't ride too many times or you'll regret it)
8.Walk to Ricochet if you want to,
9.Walk over to scream weaver...
10. Walk across the park to Thunder Roads and Frenzoid, ride those.
11. If it isn't too long of a wait, ride Sponge bob.
12.if you want to, play around in arcades and stuff...
13.walk over to Top Gun... ride Front Row Left Side, that's the best seat IMO.(ride this a few times, and you WON"T regret it :D )
14, walk over to Animation Station, if you have a little kid with you, ride Taxi, if not, then screw that and ride Scooby! (After almost 30 years, it still OWNZ YOU!)
Ride Rocket Power (if you want)
15, Ride RRR if you want to, but not if the line is long because it isn't worth it...
16. If you want to get wet (and wait in a stupidly long line) ride Wild Thornberry Adventure.
17.If you want to get SOAKED, ride WWF (if it's open)
18. Do whatever you want from there

Tips from Carowinds Worker

Number 1 Rule:

DO NOT SKIP OR JUMP THE LINE ON ANY RIDE, YOU MAY NOT SAVE A PLACE FOR ANYBODY

If found out you will be asked to leave the park.....

Number 2 Rule:

DO NOT SIT, STAND, OR SWING ON THE HANDRAILS

For your SAFETY we ask that you do not do any of these......

^Uhhh oops.... I sat /stood on the handrails  , but when I stood up it was the bottom part of Borg’s fencing line, i slid my feet between the bars and stood there

I guess I'm lucky I didn't get caught...
