General Carowinds discussion

Carowinds just posted this on Facebook:

This weekend will be your last chance to walk through our old main entrance. We'll be making room for a new and improved entry experience to come next year. The new gate will offer state of the art, quick, and easy entry, we know many new memories will be made in 2015!

You've got one last weekend.

They also responded to someone (one of us?) complaining about "respecting heritage" with this:

You might be glad to know that we're saving as many architectural elements as possible, they'll be repurposed all over the park to make other buildings more beautiful for many years to come.

I wonder why they aren't being more forward about the damage to the building. It seems like it would be an easier sell (to a likely confused public) that the cost of fixing it would be far greater tearing it down completely.

EDIT - Just made a post in the Facebook thread about it.. wonder if they'll respond..

I loved your response, Jay!

Unfortunately, some people are gonna bitch and moan about everything, no matter what the reasoning. Gotta love those people that ya can't make happy.

I'll be at the park on Saturday. I'm glad to say one final goodbye to the Plantation House.

The air systems in the building for one. Also, the structure is (from what I've heard) too old to move without damaging it. So it is quicker and cheaper to demolish it, while preserving certain parts.

I am more excited for this than I am for Fury:

Hi Maxine, we are saving all the trees as well, they'll be re-planted around the park and the new entrance. Thank you for being such a good fan we hope you keep coming for another 11 years!

:D

I am not at all a fan of the park removing the Plantation House. The park keeps on removing it's history, along with water, trees and flat rides. I know the building is not from 1920 and that it is not really historic so that makes it easy and I am glad we will be getting an awesome new entrance and the coaster we are getting. I am also happy our park is the park that Cedar Fair is pouring in tons of money. Still wish they could have somehow saved it. Don't get me wrong, I am proud of our park and I support it. I think we have one of the best corporate parks in the nation actually. Still after visiting amazing parks such as Waldameer, DeGrossos and the ultimate, Knoebels, my annoyance with big corporate parks just increased dramatically. Thankfully, the Knoebels family did not 'justify' why they should stop the Flying Turns and instead stuck with it for 7 years. Back to the entrance, I paid my last respects this past Sunday including asking someone if I could get a quick upstairs tour which they were nice enough to take me on a quick tour. It turns out I will be going again this Sunday as well. Despite my frustration at it going bye bye I will admit when I walk into the front entrance in late March I will be smiling and be very amazed.

Disney likely keeps the castle in great condition. The plantation house, from what I've heard, was not cared for by a previous park owner and the cost to fix it wasn't worth it.

But I'm sure you know all about that with your experience running an Organization, RollerBee.

Nice jab Eddie, how about using something that isnt from 2003.....?

Furthermore Cinderella's Castle is a steel frame structure, the Plantation House is likely wood frame.

I asked a question, I didnt attend C3 so I didnt get to ask or hear Q&A. I have my opinion, it has been stated. The petty jabs at my past are getting stupid and pointless.
