General Carowinds discussion

I wouldn't say they are useless especially if they are going to keep using the wands that they have at the carnival gate.

There were many times when my bag triggered the metal detectors and the attendant would simply ask what it was (my glasses case) and I would answer truthfully. The point is if you really wanted to get into the park with a weapon you could, and it wouldn't be hard.

Metal detectors at theme park for day operations are useless...

Sort of off topic but it looks like Snoopys GR8 Skate (the gauntlet) will now be at CGA as Snoopys GR8 Skate as they are expanding there Planet Snoopy area of the park... so we now know that we will not be getting it back.

I'm not angry or anything, but I think it was a dumb move. Why take a flat from a park that already needs more flats, regardless of who it's give to? lol

Do we get Tiki Twirl now? lmao. Build up our "thrill rides", build up their Planet Snoopy. It'd be a win-win.

But, honestly, I just want a Max Air! haha

No it won't.....

They are getting the Gr8 Sk8 from Knotts Berry Farm not Carowinds...
Read the description of the ride....

That appears to be a oversight, why would Luna Park be adding three rides with the same name as CGA's three new rides?

Jonathan wrote:Screamscape is claiming that the Knott's GR8 SK8 is going to Luna Park. Something obviously doesn't add up because it's a lot easier to send it from Los Angeles to San Francisco than from Los Angeles to New York.

I noticed that also but I think that Lance just put that on the Luna Park page by accident.

There are four things I'd like to touch on and speculate a bit about, for 2015:

1) The E. Pat Hall Plaque:
Surely they are keeping this piece of the front entrance, I'd say its pretty much a given. The question is where will it's new placement be? I think it would look great put inside the park where the current Carowinds signage is, when you cross the bridge, along the state-line. For some reason I just think it'd fit well there.

2) The Fountain:
I hope they keep the fountain that is encountered after entering the park. Its such an iconic piece of Carowinds, it's be a shame to lose that as well. If they feel the need to move it from that exact spot, it might look nice in the soon-to-be-constructed circle area in the pathway you walk along to get to the new entrance plaza. (To be more specific, the one on the right, adjacent to the bridge that Fury will fly under.) Any alternative to losing it would be fantastic.

3) The NC/SC Sign:
Another Carowinds icon is the sign on the bridge. I think it would be beyond cool if they created a brand new sign in the same style, just more modern, sleeker, and aesthetically pleasing. I hope families that visit Carowinds get the chance to take those pictures next to a sign while they stand in two states at once. Its so special and unique to our park.

4) The Dreaded Dino:
Not may people care what happens to the Dino form the old front gate, and admittedly I don't either. But contrary to most opinions, I think it's be interesting to see him return to the outskirts of the new entrance plaza to advertise for Dinosaurs Alive, again. Its not something I'm championing, I just personally like the dino's presence. But honestly, compared to the three things listed above, I couldn't care less what happens to the Dino. Plus I don't really think Dinos fit the whole "modern entrance" vibe all that well.

I'm really curious to see how everything looks when all is said and done. I can picture green grass and trees over the new plaza, and I hop everything goes well for the impending construction.

Just got back from SCarowinds. As I was exiting the front gate, I noticed a Tram station. It was a little shaded area with some benches. It looked fairly new. I wonder if the south gate will close next year and the tram will take you to the new front entrance.

Well that is a fascinating development if true. It would be great if someone could get a photo of that this weekend or next before the park closes.

I know Carowinds used to have a tram to the front gate, so I don't know if this is new, but if it is, it's not easy to miss. It literally says "tram station" on it. Makes me wonder if the new entrance will be the main one and the South gate will close.
