Yeah, Top Gun looks realy pathetic that way. We are in desperate need of a hyper in 06.

It's not even fair to put Top Gun into the same "speed" category as TWISTED IMPULSE COASTERS and SUSPENDED CATAPULT COASTERS. Their speed is driven by LIM's. But, I suppose it did fairly well considering what it was up against.

Top Gun ranks #39 on the AMUSEMENT TODAY STEEL COASTER POLL, but I have seen other polls that have categorized steel coasters into types. I believe Top Gun ranked #8 in the inverted category at one time.

and as for wood coasters, PC wasn't even listed on the WOOD COASTER POLL, for obvious reasons I may add....

Two comments based on previous posts:

How in the heck is having a hyper going to help things? Inverted and hypers...apples and oranges.

How is Top Gun pathetic? Its one of the most popular inverted coasters and constantly receives high marks from coaster riders! You want pathetic...even though I like it, look at Deja Vu. Constantly down. Slow loading. Can be rough. Its ranked higher than Top Gun Now, which is pathetic?

The logic of some posters just kills me.

He never said the ride was pathetic, he said it looks pathetic at #10 on a top ten list. I can see his reasoning, because if you look, there are actually 16 coasters on that top ten list, so Top Gun is actually 16th on the speed record. And that doesn't really do much to help the park. Yes, it is on a top ten list, but out of 16 coasters. and it ranked last. So think about what you are saying and what you are talking about before you post.

I don't see what the big deal is about it being 10th. Heck, 10th is a good number to be at. Its only speed anyway. There are many more factors to be considered other than just speed. There are plenty more inverteds out there anyway. Like Swampie said, Top Gun ranked 8th out of all the inverteds on the steel coaster poll. To me that says more than the top 10th on the speed list.

(Yes, there are 16 coasters on there. But, they're all grouped together at the same speed. So, 10th is *not* that pathetic.)

Hell, I've been sitting here creating these lists like he did and Top Gun only showed up one other time and that was 8th on the longest inverted list. Geez, that's pathetic.

And thank you for your help hint about posting in the future. I'll keep that in mind.

Top Gun does *very* well on Mitch Hawker's Internet Roller Coaster Poll, which has it's flaws but tries to get away from the "popularity contest" voting that tends to put whatever Cedar Point has built recently as an automatic #1.

In this poll Top Gun ranked #21 out of 250+ steel coasters, right there among many of those coasters you see on Discovery Channel specials. It's only behind such famous inverts as Nemesis, Montu, Fire Dragon and Raptor - and that's with me forgetting to vote in the steel poll this year lol. TG is my #2 behind Kumba at #1, with Raptor a very close #3 so I might have helped it a bit. And yes, all 3 of those B&M loopers are ahead of Millennium Force, SROS @ SFA and Apollo's Chariot - I guess I like inversions :P

I should also note it's the highest-ranking steel coaster in the Paramount chain on the list. It seems I'm not the only one who thinks the best coaster Paramount has is right down the road......

^^Mitch's poll is a very good one. I guess Top Gun did fairly well considering only 182 took the poll. In the Amusement Today poll, it ranked #39 and I believe they had around 1500+ people voting. So, you can do the math. I'm not up to ciphering percentages :)

Anytime Carowinds can get anything in the Top 10 is a high mark for us.

I think a hyper would help attendance but I honestly am sick of hypers. They are too smooth, have big footprints, and if not for the speed would be boring.

Top Gun has always been a great coaster and is they would get 50 people to travel the east coast and rateing rides I think our Top Gun would actually rank higher than 10th. Plus, how old is Top Gun now verses the other?

Wow, not 9th by .1 mph lol.

This dosen't suprise me, considering that Wicked Twister is only 10 mph faster than Top Gun

If you think about it that speed has changed somewhat because this year that yellow train is on fire and maybe be picking up about 5 extra mph and the red is close behind

That might have been true on opening day, but I think both trains have slowed down a little bit.
