I was like 9 the first time I went to Carowinds, and I remember begging to go on the "red one" (Vortex). But my family wisely suggested Hurler first, and I hated it lol, now it's one of my favorites.

So Hurler for me.

:o Wow! That's a tough one for me. Let's see... when I first went there was no Hurler, Vortex, Taxi Jammer, Runaway Reptar, Super Soaker Saturator, or Top Gun.

Hmm <_< I was also young on my first visit so I am thinking Scooby Doo Coaster was my first at Carowinds. The first bigger coaster at Carowinds was Goldrusher.

As a side note... the first Big Coaster (passing that crucial height requirement thing  ) was the Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens. Whoa... what a coaster to start with... not sure how many times I rode before I actually opened my eyes though. :P

Goldrusher either in '77 or '78. White Lightning was first looping coaster at PC. Corkscrew at MBP was first coaster I ever rode w/inversions.

I'm not exactly sure when I finally got up enough nerve to ride any of them.
I also don't remember what year I first visited Carowinds. I think it was around 1976 (I would have been 9) and I wanted to ride the Log Flume. The first hill scared me to death but I survived the big 2nd hill and swore I would never ride it again. (Gosh I was such a wuss) The Goldrusher was there and remember watching it and considering riding it but I didn't. ThunderRoad was built, but wasn't completed. I thought that was the biggest and highest rollercoaster in the world and I was fascinated just looking at it from a distance. Things that frightened me as a child have become some of my favorite things as an adult (rollercoasters, thunderstorms, ghosts and all things Halloween) Anyway, back to the subject, I THINK it was the Goldrusher when I was around 12 (YES 12! aarrgh! all those wasted years, silly me) Then I moved on to the Scooby. ThunderRoad was my first big coaster and I hated it the first time I rode it. I rode it again the following season and LOVED it (what a weird kid). After that, I wanted to ride every coaster I could manage to get to, which included all those at Carowinds, Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens Williamsburg. There are so many amusement parks I want to go to and haven't been. Oh yeah, I've never ridden a rollercoaster older than me (37).

My first coaster was when I was like 4 or 5, and it was Scooby Doo! (I was a young ridder.) I remember to me that was a scary, but fun coaster. Then came Goldrusher, Hurler, and then Thunderoad. And finally, when I was 9 or so, I rode Cyclone, and then the next year Vortex, and then Top Gun, and taxi jam when it came out. And then FSS in 2000, and then Ricochet last year, I've never riden RR.

Mine was either Scooby Doo or Carolina Cyclone. That was back in the days when Scooby's trains were red and yellow and had the letters going down the sides and a paw...I think. And Cyclone's lift was more like Anaconda's, way louder than it is now. I don't remember which of the two I rode first, but I do remember that Goldrusher was the last. Thunder Road seemed huge to me back then and I didn't like White Lightnin' because it went through a loop backwards. Plus in the brochures back then there were pictures of White Lightnin' without OTSR's. I didn't like that... But I finally got over my fear of bigger coasters in 1995.

Goldrusher, 1996.

The first time I went I saw Vortex and called it "The Skittles Coaster" :D (I was 4 what do you expect?)(Because it was red like the skttles package) and I always told my mom "I'm gonna ride the skittles coaster!" and I didn't until I was 10 :P

Wow Crystal the first Coaster you rode at Carowinds was Borg??

My first at Carowinds, and first ever, was Carolina Goldrusher. I know I was about 10 or so which would make that about 1977. The family had gone to the park every year since opening at least once, but that was the first time I got up the nerve to ride a coaster. That year or the next I got on Thunder Road, and a few years after White Lightnin'.

What's a bit odd is that while I had no problems with White Lightnin', I was scared to death of Carolina Cyclone for it's first few years. Well, in those days 2 loops and 2 corkscrews were a bit scary, plus that coaster looked far meaner when it was in it's reddish-orange paint scheme. I think it was that the corkscrews looked easy to fall out of since the train was sideways.

Of Carowinds' original 5 coasters, the *last* one I rode was strangely enough Scooby Doo. By the time I had gotten the nerve to ride Goldrusher and Thunder Road, Scooby Doo seemed like something I was too big for. In '84 or '85 some of my friends from high school were there in the summer, and to be a bit stupid we thought we'd go ride some kids rides. Most we couldn't get on, but Scooby we could. We all were surprisingly impressed by the little "kiddie" coaster, commenting on how fast it was.

Well the funny thing is as a kid I was scared of coasters. So I didn't ride Scooby Doo as a kid.

I think my first coaster at PC might have been Cyclone.

I know, that makes no sense, but oh well. That was the 80's. lol

Yup. The first coaster I rode at Carowinds was Borg. I just moved here last October from Tennessee. We went on opening day & ran straight to that one :]

I was 7 yrs old (that would have been 1977) and my brother talked me into a ride on TR. I was terrified until I got to the turnaround and really started to like it. By the time we got back to the station I was completely hooked. We must have ridden 15 more times in a row after that. :P My first ERT session!
