General Carowinds discussion
#68384
I've passed it several times, and since I only started going to Carowinds in may of 2014, I have no clue what it is, and have seen nothing about it posted online. Was it ever anything? It looks like stuff used to be inside and was ripped out.

I have no idea and am only guessing. I have a feeling that WROC Stereo is just a generic radio station they made up to go with the 60s drive-up diner theme. WROC, as in W-Rock (all radio and tv stations east of the Mississippii River use 'W' followed by 2 or 3 letters for their 'call letters' and stations west of the Mississippii use K followed up 2 or 3 letters). And it says 'Stereo', because in the 1960s when FM radio was trying to pick up steam, they hyped it as being in 'stereo' (since AM radio was mono).

For what it's worth, WROC is actually a station in Rochester.

Jonathan wrote:As I recall, at least in the first few years, actual radio stations in the area would sometimes broadcast from there on busy summer days.

At one time there was an actual radio studio right across the bridge from the main front entrance. It was used for live broadcasts for 1110-WBT and what was then WBCY 107.9FM, now WLNK. It was located in that area of shops near the front.
