General Carowinds discussion

Carowinds, as most of you know, have a lot of firsts in the industry. We had the first coaster to flip you upside down four times (Cyclone.) We had the first "interactive water coaster" (Flying Super Satutrator.) We had the first coaster to have a Star Trek theme (Borg.) We also, and I don't know this for a fact, had the first coaster to travel through two states. We might even be the only park that is in two states and have coasters that go through two states. But what I'm saying is that Carowinds is a park unlike any other. No other park has had firsts like us. I'm not saying that we are unlike other parks, I mean we are so similar to other Paramount parks. I just wanted to through this at you all, even though its basically a pointless topic!

and White Lightnin was a first. It actually opened a week before Kings Dominion's did.

Carowinds also jumped on the bandwagon in the early stages with many of it's rides. We had the 3rd B&M stand-up ever, the 2nd Intamin New Generation freefall, and one of the first Rapids rides when it opened in 1982.

We also now own the world's first Flying Coaster......

That is true, Stealth which is know Borg was the first flying coaster, so technically we are the park that has the first flying coaster, even though were its second park!

Well.... teechnically BORG is the world's first Lay Down, AIR is the first actuall flying coaster when you think about it..

Now all we need is the long awaited ultra-hyper-giga-strata wooden standup inverted bobsled coaster the has a lift hill so tall it takes 20 mins to go up with lemonade and burger stalls every 111.9 ft that does the world's first "quad heartline immelman"!!

Borg is a flying coaster no matter what RCT says.

^ I'm not going by RCT......

With BORG you start out laying down and the majority of the ride is laying down, with AIR it's exactly the opposite...

But, you're still flying for a good part of the ride and BORG is being billed as a flying coaster. I don't remember reading "lay down" coaster in the press releases. Remember this was Vekoma's first attempt at a flying coaster. It only took B&M to almost perfect it. Who knows what a Vekoma sec gen flyer might look like.

You say tomato.....

^^Also, I think Vekoma calls this a Flying Dutchman (not a "Laying on your back for most of the ride, but sometimes flying Dutchman!)

Just my two cents worth

yeah but you do lay down a lot, i went on X-Flight and Batwing and obviously you lay down most of the ride, on S:UF you are in the flying position going up the lift and throughout the ride. And technically, PGA had the first flyer and it will stay that way, sure we have it now, but Stealth @ PGA was the first, we just happen to have it now

Hate to burst some bubbles here but Stealth was NOT the first Flying coaster. There was afew that opened up before it.

Skytrak at Granada Studios in Manchester England was the World's First Flying Coaster. It opened up in 1997, but was short lived since the park closed down. SkyTrak headed to the scrap yard in 98.

Since it was not noted until now and it has been scrapped, the ride doesn't count.

^ So by that same logic, Leap the Dips was the first roller coaster ever built and the Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens Williamsburg was the first suspended coaster ever built.

Actually no, XLR-8 opened first, and The Bat was erased from History by Arrow Dynamics, they take no credit for the Bat. Switchback Railway has photos and patents around it.

I've heard and read that The Bat was one of the best supspended ever built, but was dismantled becuase of teething problems, because of the extreme swing of the cars around the curves.
