I would love to see Carowinds get a Water Coaster. I would then have reason to go into that area of the park.

I think if we get a water park expansion we will get everything KD will get, but I think what Cedar Fair's intentions are with Carowinds is to set us (in some way) apart from the parks around us. So I think we may see something special with a water park expansion.

arby wrote:Yes, I have ridden it numerous times at both Hollywood Studios (FL) and California's Great Adventure (CA). We love the ride at both places. I can't imagine a Sally Corp dark ride getting to the level of Toy Story Mania, though. Since it reportedly cost Disney Imagineers nearly $80 million to design, I can't see Cedar Fair putting in something that expensive.

I hear that Wonder Mountain's Guardian is very roughly similar to the concept of a shooting dark ride at a fraction of the cost. I do suspect that Carowinds will be getting something like that in the next few years. I'm hoping it will supplement what we have, though, and not replace Boo Blasters.

Well, Canada's Wonderland has Boo Blasters as well, and they didn't lose it when they gained Wonder Mountain.
I too, would very much like Boo Blasters to stay. Or better yet, get a revamp.

As far as what the next coaster should be, I would say without a doubt some kind of spin-off of Blue Fire, the Mack launch. It's not only a want, it's a need. We have only ever had one launching coaster and it's been gone for, what, over 25 years...

Blackbeard's Revenge would be a perfect Wonder Mtn. style dark ride. Theme it to Blackbeard's ghost getting his revenge on Carowinds for what the two states allowed to happen at the coast. It could work, and the name used to be Carowinds ride, IIRC.

That's good to know. I haven't paid close attention to Canada's Wonderland.

I had planned at least one trip to Canada this year but it appears most of my travel budget went out the window so I don't know if we're going to do anything this year. :(

You're probably better going in 2016 when Canada's Wonderland gets that rumored big new coaster. It's truly a great park when a ton of flats and a ton of coasters (in which a couple should be axed). The fact that it's only 4 hours away from my house outside of Detroit makes me go their once a year.

Good to know, thanks. I really haven't been paying attention to many rumors over the past year.

Just a small note, because this sort of thing REALLY bothers me, redrunner97 we received Wonder Mountain's Guardian, not Wonder Mountain. Wonder Mountain is the name of the mountain at the centre of the park built between 1979 and 1981 for the grand opening. If you have to shorten the ride name, call it Guardian, please. (Or else I'll start calling it Fury three-hundred-and-twenty-five! ).

Oh and the Wonderland coaster for 2016 is almost certainly not just a rumour. The park spelled it out for us pretty straightforward: With the removal of SkyRider from it's "prime real estate" for "future park enhancements" through a "very large construction project" over "one, two, or three years" in order to "continuing to be leaders in our industry with innovation and thrills" and that "the park says popularity wasn’t a factor in the decision to shut down the ride" it's hard to argue it's removal could mean anything but a new area built around an amazing new coaster. Looking forward to potentially seeing many of you then for it's inaugural year! :D

Also, us coaster enthusiasts are so funny! Fury 325 hasn't even opened yet and already talk about what should come to the park in 2017 and on (in a 2016 thread no less)!

Good to know about CW. We could not make it during our 2014 coaster road trip. If / when they get that new coaster in the next year or two, I wonder what it will be. Plus, it makes me curious if we should go up there this summer to ride everything (before they close anything else... assuming that is a possibility). Hmmm...

I was thinking, yeah dangerous passtime I know. I realize that the following may not happen for another 4 years or more, but the Centurion name/theme. I was watching a video of Medusa and Six Flags Mexico and it made me think about if RMC created a coaster themed around Centurion. The track would be a shimmering gold color with red braces and white wooden support structure. The trains would have a helmet look to it. Kind of like the armor that they would wear. Or better yet, the trains could have a chariot look to them. the station would be of Roman architecture surrounded by various fountains. Or if the theme were to be that in the heat of a Roman battle, then that area could look devastated.
Just some thoughts. I would love to design rides, coasters, and theming for rides.

That be a great idea! Since Carowinds is getting more parking in the front maybe they can add a roman themed area near the south gate. Remove that dinasours alive crap and put some roman buildings there and maybe some Greek restaurant. Make Centurion a launch coaster or a launched wing and can take part of some of that south gate parking, but still leave some if they need a water park expansion.

All that Carowinds needs right now is a water park expansion, flat rides, and the plaza to be redone. I see some of y'all already talking about coasters but this is for 2016 ride ideas, not 2020 ride ideas.

Also, just to anger some of you...
The Fury 325.
The Afterburn.
The Thunder Road.

Alright i'm done messing with y'all.

^ Unnecessary "the"s are right up there too: "Excuse me, where's The Vortex?" :x And I always hurt a little inside when I hear a ride operator pronounce it wrong: "Welcome to The Thunder Run!"

^^ Oh sure, you can all complain when someone mispronounces the name of your ride (Fury 3-2-5), but I'm not allowed to be irked by someone confusing a ride with a mountain? :P If someone came up to me and asked, "Where's Wonder Mountain?" I'd direct them to centre of the park and not to Guardian's entrance. (More likely I'd just respond with "It's right there!") I do correct people (friends and family, not strangers) on their grammar and pronunciation as well in the "real world" as I'm an English major of sorts.

^^^ So many people on here hate Dinosaurs Alive... At Wonderland it's easily overlooked on a pathway out behind Planet Snoopy, but I guess it just doesn't fit Carowinds that well because of how overt it is in the space it takes up. If it brings in money to the park, gets kids to learn a little, and allows for more schools to validate school trips to amusement parks, I really don't have a problem with it. I've been quiet on this so far because I've never been to Carowinds so I can't say for sure what kind of an impact it has on the overall park appearance/quality. From what I can see on google maps it does take up a very large area, and doesn't make good use of the space. If they moved the entrance to behind Woodstock Express, next to Lucy's Crabby Cabbie, they could move the trail away from its current entrance and make it less overt and more directly inside Planet Snoopy. They could use the now free space for a flat ride or two (like that Giant Frisbee you all want so badly next to Afterburn's brake run and maybe a new Disk'O coaster next to Woodstock Gliders) with a line of trees in between and then it would be harder to complain about Dinosaurs Alive. Sure it's not that launched coaster some of you want on this land, but it's something, right? And it could be done next year (well, except that we're pretty sure it's going to be another water park expansion in 2016).

Here's a link to a quick sketch I did of the potential new Dino trail. Red is a giant frisbee, Blue is a Disk'O coaster, Purple is the new entrance to Dinosaurs Alive, Green is a bunch of new trees and greenery, and Yellow is the new shortened path (dinosaurs can be added on the north side where the trees are or whatever). It's just a rough sketch to convey my idea better.

Everyone keeps talking about "the future of the land Dino's are on".

Listen, all of that should (and probably will) be reserved for Planet Snoopy expansions over the next few years (I'm talking decade(s)...). If they put too much non-kiddie stuff in any of that area it could easily lock Planet Snoopy in for when they want to do something in the future -then they'd either have to expand outward of the park's current footprint or remove something. Both aren't great choices for multiple reasons, such as cost for the former, and loss of ride count on the latter.

I would like to see them utilize the paths for a free nature walk with benches and a few ponds. Maybe a couple kiosks selling healthy snacks and water. Until they decide to use it properly.

Put more flats in County Fair, Thrill Zone, and the Carolina Boardwalk (perhaps a good location for Blackbeard's Revenge? ).

... and for the record. Shockingly, I can tell the difference between a mountain and a dark ride themed after a dragon that resides within the aforementioned mountain. :) Wonder Mountain is technically short for Wonder Mountain's Guardian, no matter which way you cut it. But from now on I will be calling it CF'S CW'S WMG: TDR
