Me and my out-of-town guests decided to hit the Nights of Fire show last night at Carowinds. Since we were led to believe that the majority of the fireworks were going to be from the Skytower, we decided to find a good area outside the park to best view them. I had an idea that the Carolina Pottery Mall would be crazy but that is the area we ended up in anyway. And yes, it was very crowded. The entire hill that borders the parking lot from the entrance road was lined with people and cars were parked along the grassy median as far as you could see. We got a good spot and made our way up the small hill that overlooks the Carowinds parking lot. We arrived about 20 minutes before the actual show but believe me, there was no shortage of fireworks displays from the mall parking lot. Some were rather good I may add. Anyway, 10pm came and all the Skytower lights were turned off with the exception of the red light at the very tip top. The Carowinds fireworks show actually began in an area outside the park. I am thinking it was the area where the small lake use to be near the guest drop-off. The best and the majority of the fireworks were in that area, not the Skytower. The displays from the Skytower were OK, but nothing to brag about, IMO. There were a couple moments. There was a delay of about 2 minutes between each Skytower display. They would do a big shoot, then set up the next batch. It wasn't a solid mass display of fireworks like I was thinking. The bright parking lot lights were a major distraction also. Anyway, it was a fun time. Here are some photos I took of the event. I can shoot a great daytime photo, but I haven't learned the art of shooting fireworks photos. They say a tri-pod is a must but I didn't feel like dragging a big ole tri-pod with me. Anyway, here they are, poor quality and all.
