I'm not an expert on paving. However, from what I've observed in other general paving projects, they seem to do a first layer with a bigger aggregate as a stronger base layer. Then they follow up with another coat with a smaller aggregate that is the smoother topcoat that we are accustomed to seeing.

I don't know if they will do that with the new parking lot or not but it wouldn't surprise me if they did.

I know there were time constraints, but I kinda wish they stuck closer to the render. The red/yellow bricks looked great. So much concrete now.

Last year they didn't put the new one online until like a week after opening so I'm not sure how much we should count on it coming out before opening

I won't swear to it, but seeing as it looks like they are installing irrigation lines for the grass, I would assume that they had to cut a trough through the concrete to run lines over to the other side? If it isn't related to that, I don't have a clue!

thats what I'm thinking. either it was an after thought or someone screwed up.

As far as cutting concrete to run lines. I know when our power company added gas lines, they used a special tool to go under drive ways with out tearing up driveways and intersections. However I would have thought such Utilities would have been installed prior to the concrete being laid. Possible late design change?

Yeah, most companies do use the augers that tunnel underneath roads/walkways/etc which is why I said I wasn't exactly sure what it was for. I wouldn't think they would dig it up just for a simple water line, but you never know.
