^ nah... just cheaper, quicker to build, and probably less maintenance.

It should be interesting to see what they are building in the two square areas just before the bridge into the park. You can see steel going up... I'm wondering if they will have a crowd control gate across there before the park opens and the sections of the gate roll into two sheds?

It looks like the new parking is almost all striped. I'm assuming the remaining weird shaped area will get stripes. There also seems to be a fairly large contrast to the state border strip in the walkway to the new concrete... unless the new concrete hasn't fully dried and will end up looking like the strip :?

^ yeah, I saw that too...

Looks to me like they might be applying spray-on grass/seed ?

While the new plaza area design wise is looking great, I have to say I am not impressed with the lack of trees and massive amounts of concrete that is being installed. Imagine what it is going to be like walking there in the middle of July when it's over 90 degrees and humid outside. I might be wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if Carowinds is cutting corners here to save money. My guess is the original construction bids came in higher than they anticipated.

Just going to have to get there early and park in the pretty new section. :-)

Mike already stated that they weren't repaving the old section this year. If the rumors of waterpark expansion are true as the next phase, it would make sense to not touch the south side of the parking lot as it would be either eliminated or messed up during construction. Why put a bunch of money into something you are going to mess up the following season?

The difference from the new to the old parking lot is gonna be like driving back to the 1970s. Faded asphalt and faded lines (not to mention worn lines visible over worn older lines that make night driving a hassle.) Oh, and lets not forget the lighting difference. I'm hoping that, if not this year then definitely next, that they redo the rest of the lot to match, It could look SOOOO good. First impressions still mean something don't they?

its just a place to park your car.

in other news looks like cleanup is underway under the lift hill etc. looking good.

Cant tell from the cam but looks like 40-50 handicapped spots right up front

I wish they would plant a ton of trees between the two new walkways to mirror the bunch of trees on the other side of the state line. If not, that's going to be a huge barren patch of land.

I'm not pointing fingers, but making a general statement....

Can we hold off on criticizing the new area until it is finished? They are still working on things and we don't know what all the plans are for finish work. Remember, Michelangelo's David was once an ugly piece of rock until he finished it. Give Carowinds a chance to finish. Then if you still don't like, voice your opinion.

It just seems that since they have finished the construction of the coaster, everyone has been looking for something to talk about and usually it is how they are unhappy with something at the new entrance.

Sorry, wasn't trying to offend anyone. All the negativity just gets a bit much sometimes.
