General Carowinds discussion

I've wondered about what everyone felt about BORG Assimilator. I personally thought it was an okay decision. I like the feeling of flying and all, but it's not like the B&M Flying Coasters and the ride ocassionally breaks down. My parents despise it stating that they're going to post in the guest feedback to get rid of the thing. They hate that it's too short for their tastes and plus half the time it breaks down. I personally wouldn't want to get rid of it even though it breaks down a bit. Post your thoughts

I voted for greatest thing even though I have yet to ride it, the reviews are good, and it looks so much fun. Who cares if it breaks down alot. Its a protoype, and at least its doing better here than it was at PGA. I can't wait to go this year. All I need to do is convince my parents to take me. Hey, my b-days on Aug 7, maybe I can get them to take me for my birhday!!!

:o Too Short!

It looks pretty long to me. I haven't rode yet, but maybe they mean it's too short for the amount of time you have to wait in line to ride.

I think it was a positive addition for many reasons.

1) It's another coaster to the lineup

2) It eliminated the old run-down Smurf Island

3) Star Trek is a strong Paramount namesake and needed representation in a park.

4) It's an expensive and unique coaster that furthur pushes Carowinds up the ranks and on the maps.

CarowindsThrills, I agree with your parents whole-heartedly on this. I voted Bad Mistake.

Before I rode BORG, I may have voted "OK Decision" simply because it was a new coaster for our park and something was finally being done to the ole Smurf Island. After riding BORG, my opinion has changed drastically! This is a typical Vekoma pile of "you know what". It's rough, and the restraints are very uncomfortable during the ride. And thank God it's short because of that!

I know I will be greatly out numbered in this poll but Vekoma has a bad reputation for a darn good reason. This company has not yet learned the art that makes B&M who they are. It's the poor mans coaster and I am sorry we have this ride sitting in our park.

PGA removed this ride for one simple reason. It was losing ridership bigtime! Don't be fooled otherwise.

Sure, the coaster has it's fans.
But so did the Pinto!

should've gotten a new ride, clearly. They did PGA a favor by taking it, sure i bet it's a good ride, but i would've wanted something unique and new, not a used coaster already.

I voted Biggest Disaster. Big Bad Wolf is much better. Carowinds should have built Big Bad Wolf instead. The best thing about Big Bad Wolf is the final drop down to the Rhine River. Big Bad Wolf is the most awesomest coaster ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111! Big Bad Wolf forever!!!!!!!

I say BORG Assimilator is awsome, so it is used.

I think what some people forget here is that they may not have had the option of just buying a new ride instead. Obviously Carowinds got a great deal by getting Borg used, and if had not been for that opportunity we may not have seen a new coaster at all. Although I think maintanence issues may come to haunt Carowinds in the future, I think right now, while not the greatest decision, it was a good one. Personally, of course I would have preferred a new coaster, but I really enjoy Borg Assimilator, and I honestly like it better than the B&Ms.

Hmm... I wonder if they could have used any extra money from that deal to tidy up the parking lot a bit besides the Platinum Pass area. ;)

Whew! I'm glad at least one person agrees with me.

Duke, do you remember when Carowinds sold Drachen Fire & Big Bad Wolf t-shirts? I think that was about 10 years ago. They actually had these 2 coasters on t-shirts that said CAROWINDS on them. I bought one of each as a souvenier. The big rumor started that Carowinds was getting a suspended coaster for 1994. But, as we all know, they got Hurler instead.

OK, sorry to stray off topic....

I voted bad Mistake (REALLY BAD MISTAKE).. this roller coaster came from Great America where it was most always broke down.. I heard they almost threw a party when they got the news that it was leaving...LOL

I wonder how the Powers that be thought that if they could just send it to North Carolina (with a few bad modification and rebuild) that it would Be so much better here. Since it was installed the the trains have been broken due to the combining of old and new technology..

I have heard that the Old relays that were giving such a big problem have been replaced with new solid state relays.. Maybe this will get the poor maintenance guys out of the station..

Any way I think they could have spent the money on something better..

Just my opinon...
