General Carowinds discussion

^^ Maybe but i wouldn't bet on it. Kings Island spent a double truckload trying and trying to get Son of Beast back online but at the end of the day, well you know how that ended up.

Ridership vs maintenance costs are numbers that play into decisions.

Ride it this year just in case. If you want to.

^Son of Beast was different circumstances, Thunder Road hasn't had a major news making accident. Plus it is one of the top 4 most ridden rides in the park.

If the park REALLY wanted to piss off the general public, they'd take out Thunder Road. After seeing how mad people got over the Plantation House's removal, I can't imagine how they would react over a historic coaster being removed. I myself would not be to pleased if the rumor is true.

That being said, I highly doubt this is true. It doesn't make sense as to why the park would remove Thunder Road when they could easily make a path under it.

How do you know this? Is there ridership data available online anywhere?

^^ Yeah, it doesn't make sense to spend the time and money removing a popular coaster (one that has been retracked for the past 7 years or so) when you could take the easy route and build under it. Where is he getting these rumors from? :?

Guys, don't freak out. This isn't even a rumor that I've even heard. Besides, Thunder Road isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Let's just keep riding it so that the park will have a reason to keep it.

I worked at park in 2006, Thunder Road was the most ridden ride in the park that season. In 2007 I was told that Afterburn surpassed it and so on.

It makes sense because it's essentially two rides in one, so counting it as one attraction the capacity is significantly higher than any other coaster in the park.

I've been shocked by some things in the industry over the years so I guess anything is possible, but I don't see any reason whatsoever at this point to believe there is any truth to this rumor. Remember Screamscape just posts what gets sent in. For everything that turns out true on there there are countless more that are completely false.

Thunder Road is two rides in one and, if I'm not mistaken, it is certified as two separate rides as well. I'm a fan of Thunder Road and hope it stays. It's become a bit rough over the years so, I hope maybe they cam smooth it out for the 40th so I can ride it more than once a trip without my teeth being chattered out.

I know that Six Flags is converting a lot of their woodies into hybrids with barrel rolls and unique elements of wrapping one coaster around the other. (Don't' know if Cedar Fair is looked into doing something like that.) I think I would be okay with something like that. I'm nostalgic enough to want to see the ride stay but not so much so that an update wouldn't be appreciated.

I don't consider myself nostalgic, but I really don't want to see TR converted. I'd be fine with Hurler but TR is a classic and I feel like that would ruin the "Retro" feel to it. Besides, I think that the GP would go apesh*t if they found anything other than repairs were being done to TR.

I think with only 3, well 4, wooden coasters the park can benefit well from a twisted wooden coaster. I don't know what can be done with TR's layout being it is the epitome of an out and back coaster. With only one turn after the lift I don't see, right now, how it can be "transformed". But then again steel medusa is around the same height as TR...(but isn't that built on a hill)?

I wouldn't go apes*** crazy like I did over Plantation House for either removal or update but I would rather Thunder Road stay the same. However I am for new trains with buzz bars and one dispatch instead of two. This could cut staffing the ride in half and bring back racing! I have gotten so use to seeing the ride in natural colors that I think adding trees around the ride and hiding the ride would be awesome. Plus with shade around the track, it may(and this is a stretch) make the ride smoother.
