General Carowinds discussion

We were treated royally... free drinks throughout the day. The food was fantastic... the lavender honey truffles and dauphine potatoes were to die for... Great band in Harmony Hall, another in the park, drum group playing in a different area. FamousAmos's display looked amazing... it will be a showpiece for Carowind's when complete.

Rode Fury 5 times, Timmy 3, Slingshot once.

Fury was FAST, SMOOTH, FUN... you get airtime coming down the first drop and you feel the speed in your face. I'd say after the initial barrel turn, the speed doesn't feel as fast to me then the more consistent speed of I305... but the side rolls, more airtime, under the bridge, etc. make up for the speed. Timmy was great as usual, with tons of airtime. The airtime on Fury doesn't come as often but when it does, it seems more intense and lasts longer. Fury seems to me to be clearly better than Leviathon... with more interesting elements, speed, and a longer ride. MF is harder to compare... it has that view of the lake, and feels more fluid with more curves. MF wears it's age well. It would be very interesting to ride them back-to-back on the same weekend. We bought great looking Fury hoodies and a cap.

Slingshot was surprisingly smooth and didn't feel like it had much g-force. Most of it's fun was in the anticipation before the launch. The other thing that was fun was extending your legs at the top, which causes the seats to roll forward and back much to the delight of the folks waiting in line.

The entrance looked clean and modern. Appreciate all the hard work the construction crews, Carowinds people, and Cedar Fair have done for bringing these improvements to our park.

It seems like Carowind's got bang for their buck from Media Day... the camera crews were out in droves... many speaking foreign languages. Three B&M reps were there... I think one of them had a Bolliger last name.

Jonathan wrote:It's hard to top Magnum as my favorite steel coaster for nostalgia reasons, but I think this is probably objectively the best steel I've ridden. Better than New England Bizarro, Leviathan, Skyrush, I-305, etc. There is airtime on some of the turns and turnaround that I really did not expect to be there.

I'm into it! How was the turnaround at 91º/ what was the ride highlight for you?

The turnaround is one of the best parts. It's going so fast that there is sideways airtime coming over the top, which I did not expect. The only uneventful parts are the high banked turn before the camelback and the helix. The fast turns at the beginning had surprising pops of airtime that I didn't expect and there's even airtime randomly about halfway down the first turn after the drop. Phenomenal ride. The airtime hills at the end really seal the deal and give it a great ending. The trim brake was hitting pretty hard but all three hills were still delivering excellent airtime.

^yeah, when I rode, I could definitely feel the trims and not to complain, but I feel like there would be much more airtime on those three hills if that trim was deactivated, but we all know that's probably not going to happen.

What an incredible event. Rode Fury 6 or 7 times. Haha can't even remember! I tried out back, middle, and front, and by far front row is where it's at. Just like everyone else said, you can hardly see, or hear for that matter due to the high speed winds. While it doesn't pack the uber intensity of I-305 throughout, it has moments that rival it and is an overall better coaster due to the strangely unique sideways airtime. From the drop to the tunnel, you literally have the most action packed, disorienting segment of coaster track ever. It took two rides just for me to even have words to express about the coaster. I can't wait to go back Friday and experience it at night.

Awesome! I suspected the turnaround might be a highlight, and very glad to hear it's a balanced ride overall with some unexpected air and solid finish. Thanks for the feedback, guys~!

Had a great time. I lost track of how many times I road Fury. 9 or 10 times. I can't say it's my favorite coaster yet. My Favorite B&M definitely though. I did not make it to Slingshot or Intimidator.

I don't know how to get my mobile pictures up here but I also brought a pocket camera that I will get pics up sometime tonight.

Would have been great to meet some of you but it didn't happen. Maybe next time.

Nothing was said about next years plans during the announcement except the reiteration of a "Big Splash". Some of the other people around here may have talked to people directly. I only ran into IT people from Cedar Fair and they didn't know anything.
