General Carowinds discussion

Tarheel, If Id've know that was you behind me I would've said hi. I just realize that I can't identify half of you. It would be nice if there were some way to identify CC members (without blatantly doing so) so that new members can find us at events and such. Thoughts mods?

I'll post my mini review of Fury. Its fast, tons and tons and tons and tons of speed. Its forceful but not like Afterburn but more so than Intimidator. The airtime on the last three hills surprised me, especially the last two. The last two were some very strong floater but not quite ejector but stronger than Intimidator, and they were also weird in the sense that they are not steep at all on either end so you don't really slam into your seat on the way back down like on the first airhill. The heartlining on this ride is weird, it feels very exaggerated like the actual point of heartlining is around where your head is. The sideways dive is actually very flowing, I thought it would feel segmented. The turn between the tunnel and first airhill wasn't too noticeable other than it felt like an overbank even though it isn't one. The trim is very noticeable. :( Helix isn't forceless and that support felt like the closest clearance on any B&M coaster ever.

IMO the front seat ride on this thing is something else entirely and this is from someone who almost exclusively rides the back row on coasters. Fury was my 209'th coaster and I have never experienced anything like the wind in the front row from the bottom of the first drop to the bottom of the 91° turnaround. You can hardly breathe for the entirety of that section and it pretty much forces your mouth open too. The first drop in the back row is incredible and the air is slightly better over the hills I feel.

Now unfortunately my internet has just decided to crap out for the last few days and has timed out when I tried to upload the announcement and all of my pictures. (I recorded the entire announcement and took 177 pictures!) I will just leave you with one of the more unique photos I took which was a panorama of the underground dive taken vertically.

I'm not going to rehash what everyone is saying but Thank You for such an awesome coaster for Carowinds.

I made a rough 360degree Panorama of the front entrance. You can see it HERE. Place your mouse on the picture and click the LEFT arrow for an enlarged screen. If you want you can also, in the lower right corner, click on 1024P. Not the best in the world but a good view anyways. You can also zoom in and out with your mouse.

It was great to see you all again and I apologize for not being great with names.

Also, almost forgot, On the NC side after the booths there are bricks with each of the counties names. I believe Mike said they were doing the same for the SC side also.

What app did you use, Mark?

As for identifying each other, didn't we talk about that? Simplest way is to let people know where you are. If they want to find you or be found, you'll know...

No App just the web site. dermander It took me a couple times to get it close to right.

It is kind of hard to identify each other but there is a thread here to post a pic of yourself. That might help as I suck with remembering names.

Fury was surprising to me, in a very good way.

I expected it to be good, but there were parts of Intimidator that looked good looking at the layout and seeing the simulated POV that were weaker than expected. Now, I love Intimidator but thought the turnaround and helix would both be a good bit more intense than they turned out being, which would have made the ride feel more "complete".

Fury was the exact opposite. The turns on the outbound run all exceeded expectations, delivering quite a bit of intensity with strong forces and snappy directional changes. It felt more like Afterburn / Batman / Kumba than the B&M hypers I've been on in some ways. The turnaround, which looked to be a bit of a pause in the simulated POV and during test runs didn't seem to slow at all when on the ride. The train roars through there delivering some nice sideways airtime.

After diving UNDER THE BRIDGE (now reality, not an old joke!) there are more surprises in store. One, the airtime on the 3 airtime hills. My thighs were hurting after 10 (or was it 11) rides, mainly from this airtime. It's different than the pops of air one gets on Apollo or Goliath, or the stronger, longer floater air on Intimidator. It wasn't quite ejector, but it was very strong and very sustained. Then, there's the helix. It wasn't quite Raptor strong, but it was much more forceful than Intimidator's. Then there's The Headchopper. Even when I knew it was coming I wanted to drop my hands. That support looks absolutely enormous as you're racing towards it.

The ride picked up some speed in the afternoon, other than one ride which seemed a bit slow after the trim. Take some of the "reviews" of the ride from people who rode it a couple of times in the morning with a grain of salt.
