General Carowinds discussion

I decided against doing an in-depth review of Fury 325, so I'll just sum up my thoughts in a few sentences. The first drop is steep, long, and amazing. The laterals during the first half were crazy! The airtime was even stronger than I hoped. That horseshoe turn provides a serious pop of air. I can't remember too much though. It all went by in a blur. My new #1 (I know I'm not that experienced, but I thought this was pretty amazing).

I saw you in line Jarvis!

Well I waited in line for an hour and a half. That was the best ride I've been on.. the only problem I had with it was that the speed of the first drop made my eyes water so I didn't see half the ride. It was truly furious. Great job Carowinds!

WCNC (Channel 36, NBC) will have a report on the 11pm news tonight about the possibility of Carowinds becoming a worldwide tourist destination due to Fury 325. Just saw the promo and will try to tune in. Meanwhile, I hope to make it to Carowinds on Sunday, as I got a discount ticket at work. Which I may upgrade to a season pass when I get there.

We got in the Fury line at about 7PM near the Scrambler, finished the ride at 8:50PM. At least the rain mostly held off. The ride in the darkness is more exciting to me than in the daylight. The sense of speed is greater and the rolls left and right aren't anticipated as early because you can't see them. It was much more enjoyable than in the daylight on Wednesday. The lights are great looking, although I never saw the flashing lights under the bridge... just the initial hexagon is lit.

btw, the Oreo Churros were crap... they had no sugar on the outside, were dry, and the dark filling was pretty tasteless... better to stick with Jack-in-the-box. They do have another kind of Churro in the park so maybe it will be better.

I was among the first 100 people to arrive at the park. When the gates opened, I showed my season pass to the employee, and then waited for my sister, who decided to come along with me for the ride. She handed the guy her card.................................... And it didn't work. (I just about cried). She threw her hands up in frustration, but told me to go on ahead before the line for Fury gets too long. Rather than argue with her, I actually did, running to the ride with a line that had already built up during our confusion. Observing the line, I concluded this must already take an hour at least. It was then I saw my sister approach the line....... with an employee. (que es esto?) Both walked up and the employee said. "Come with me, you're skipping the line." This seemed too good to be true, but after being told my sisters invalid card was the parks fault, their way of apologizing was to give us a back row ride of fury without the line!!!! Tears of pure euphoria welled up in my eyes, and I was lead by her past the enormous line straight to the station, where I was given the very back row with my sister.. God bless that invalid card!!

Now for the ride:

The lift hill took an eternity to climb. Being in the back seat, we were whipped over the crest feeling air time and it was a great way to start this incredible journey. The massive barrel turn was amazing, and again the train yanked us back down to the ground as we literally flew through the s-curve. The sharp turns were forceful and very intense. I thought I could high-five the people standing on the bridge. XD. The dive after the horseshoe turn was supposed to give me in the back left-hand seat the most air time, and I certainly felt it. The tunnel was really nice, especially with the hexagons and stuff.. The sharp left-hand turn thingy was cool, but that first air time hill was AMAZING. We flew through that helix, and I tried real hard to touch the one support, but obviously missed. The last two air time hills were well executed, and overall the ride is the greatest roller coaster I've ever been on. The end.

For those curious, the line tonight ended up underneath the pedestrian tunnel that is covered with vines between Kaleidoscope and Rapids. What's worse, once you got to Fury plaza, they then routed the line down the service road that is between the Fury queue and the backside of the Rapids. The line went to the end of the service road underneath the lift hill, then back towards Fury Plaza, and then into Fury 325's normal queue. Crazy!

This video sort of illustrates the craziness of the crowd tonight.

I was walking beside you filming this! I saw myself on the video in the distance when you start up the hill toward vortex. And I remember you caught up and passed me at the corner of the theater. Neat.

Edit: Wait... was that you or you just linked the video?

Rode it twice tonight. First time was about a 45 min wait. The second time it got pretty close to an hour and a half to two hours. As for the ride it was insane. Pictures do no justice, you must see this massive structure in person. It shot through the course like a bullet. I have no airtime complaints, it actually had more airtime than I expected. No complaints, best coaster I've ever ridden!

A friend of mine and I got on about 45 minutes after the park opened, and rode in the 7th row. Starting with the drop, what felt like a millenium went by. the good 4-5 seconds you're staring at the ground felt like hours. From there on out, everything was a blur until after the turnaround. I swear I almost touched the support, but I was probably a good foot away. I later, I recorded a slow mo video over the bridge, which turned out pretty sweet. I will upload that later. Overall, 11/10. Even off ride, you can barely see the train fly by

I was there today guys and honestly can say it's the best ride ever, I've been to many parks and the hype on this ride is real! You guys need to try it out. The traffic was crazy, the 2 hour wait was crazy but well worth it! Here are some pics I took... Also I got a fury key chain! Hopefully we see a hornet mascot in the park as well!

Two quick questions Ive noticed about the ride from media day, What are those two yellow circular platforms on a pole on the ends of the station? You can see it right in the middle of the last picture from the post above me. And also whats up with the squeaking from the train on the turn into the station? I have been on tons of B&M's and not once have I ever heard one squeal or make any noise like that really, it sounded like the sound a PTC train makes when it goes around a tight turn too fast.

It was making that noise media day as well. Sounded like a bad wheel bearing to me.
