General Carowinds discussion

While it's not impossible, I don't think we'll see a coaster taller than Fury at the park. Seems like I remember a question being asked during the C3 tour last year and Steve said the FAA denied the park their request for Fury because of it's height. It was only after the park pulled the FAA approval for SkyTower and showed them that they had approved a 340' tower that the FAA said ok to Fury.

i think it's a fair point to make that until now it hasn't been a product they officially offer. That was a special circumstance. I would expect now to see more launched B&Ms going forward. In fact it wouldn't surprise me at all if a launched wing coaster is in the long term future for Carowinds.

Strata coasters were and still are a recipe for disaster. A 20 second ride with a lot of downtime for nearly the cost of Fury? No thanks.

I think it will be located outside the gates, about 500 miles north, inside Cedar Point, and called Top Thrill Dragster. Anyone that wants to ride it can drive up to Sandusky. It's a blast!

I hope you're not referring to me. I know exactly what they mean by that. No need to read too deeply into it.

Random: Is there a way to delete an account from carowinds connection? (as in delete your own, not as in having the mods delete your account because you're banned) Asking for a friend....

Not random: I wouldn't think it would be a negative thing for Carowinds to get a strata coaster (is it realistic? I think definitely not soon but you never know). I thought they were astounding when I first started getting into roller coasters. It would no doubt get people talking about the park. People always want something new and record-breaking and it's sad but true that Fury won't be "new and exciting" forever (though people like us will never forget how awesome it truly is, it won't necessarily get people as excited if they've already ridden it for several years)

What do you mean? No it will not be new however it still will an exciting ride. MF is close to 16yrs and is still a top ride at CP. Fury is almost 2yrs (awww stingy still a baby). Trust Fury have years to reign in the park.

Thinking people always want "new and record breaking" was a major issue that Kinzel had when he ran the park. Granted, in marketing we can push things like the "est" this or that for whatever coaster is built, but look at the parks that have the tallest coasters in the world, they've all been there for at least a decade. I don't see Carowinds breaking Fury's height (fourth tallest drop, fifth tallest coaster in the world), just based off of trends and sensibility, for a long time, if ever.

They'll focus on adding family rides, dark rides, thrill rides, and new and exciting stuff, as they're rolling out to their other parks.
