I think it was just left fenced off after construction finished last season.

It wasn't fenced off last season and was only done recently. It's fenced off because.....(contents of this message deleted)

I am 100% sure it was fenced off after the water park opened because I remember making the comment about it riding Thunder Road.

When did Dorsel Fin and Swell open? I see they are complete in the picture. I remember making the comment to friend that they may be leaving it fenced off for Centurion/Fury 325 parts when they arrived or they may use the bus lot.

That fence was taken down sometime after they finished construction on the slides. That part of the parking lot was used for parking later in the 14 season.

Hmm, the broken clock is right this. Checked Google Maps and the fence was not there in October. There are markings under Thunder Road and in the parking lot, but are they new?

I read on another forum that someone overheard talk [at Media Day] that hinted at a conversion coming next year that will be announced in the fall. Interesting if true, maybe the park has more up their sleeve than we know...

On the topic of Thunder Road being repainted, I think that's wonderful.
When I close my eyes and think of Thunder Road being restored to it's former glory I picture it white with the track itself painted red, and the rails along the sides painted Carolina blue -just like in all those gorgeous old pictures I drool over from Carowinds Early Years. lol. I also picture it with the original Burma Shave signs going up the lift, in the style of the small 'loose article' signs around Fury.

Wouldn't it be amazing if they went all out and even replaced the trains with Millennium Flyers? The front car designed with the flag of each state on the front, really making it a "battle of the states". Just the thought of that gets me excited. A new sign for the lift (and when you enter the queue) would be fantastic too, preferably a throwback in some way to the original sign.

This topic makes me go a little overboard, but that's only because it's one that I'm very passionate about. Thunder Road is one of my favorite wooden coasters, can you blame me? :p

... now that all that's said, can we argue about which side is NC and which is SC? lol
(the answer: neither really are either, but the left -ascending the lift- is commonly considered NC and the right is SC)

Devin Olson, who has been around COASTER-net for a long time, has been shooting documentary of Fury 325 this past week. He specifically mentioned in a Facebook post that the park had hinted/mentioned a conversion during Media Day in addition to their statement regarding a big 'splash'.

I had seen that Conference Call you just mentioned, and figured the two may be related. In addition to the removal of SkyRider, I agree that Cedar Fair seems to be phasing out their collection of stand-up roller coasters. Shockwave I suppose may be the next stand-up to be removed outright while Vortex at Carowinds and Vortex at CGA are candidates for new floorless rolling stock.

I also saw those Screamscape rumors about Thunder Road, and purposefully didn't say much because it doesn't make much sense to me. I have pondered whether or not Thunder Road could be a candidate for said 'conversion', but Carowinds just invested a great deal or time, effort, and money into completely reconstructing the entire roller coasters from the ground up. The project has happened in sections over the past four or five off-seasons. I believe GCI was contracted for this project in addition to retracking and reprofiling parts of Hurler prior to the 2014 season.

It's 99% speculation, but still very interesting that conversion is brought up.
Regardless, we should still take all of this with a grain of salt. Also, if anything were to get some kind of conversion, I doubt it would be Vortex, due to recent info.

I couldn't track down the comment I was talking about a couple posts back. (because I can't recall where I read it).
