General Carowinds discussion
#74807
For two straight hours this afternoon/evening, the Fury crew dispatched 40 trains one hour, then 41 the next. Their goal is 48, but Mike said B&M told them the ride can handle 50-55 per hour.

At one point they were getting so fast, a loaded train (Train 2) would roll out of the station and would stop and wait to be advanced to the lift hill. The previous train (Train 1) would have to hit the 91 degree turn around before the second train would move to the left hill. While the second train was waiting to be advanced to the lift hill, the third train would already be loading in the station. (Hope that makes sense.)

I was at the park all day and they were loading trains fast. The crew was amazing. I was on the first train of the day (row 1, seat 1) but later found my favorite seat to be row 8, seat 4 so the staff pretty much knew where I wanted to go. I splurged for the Fast Lane Plus pass today so I rode Fury 13 times to bring my total count to 25. I was beat and left at 7:15.

On my 2nd to last ride the ride stopped with us sitting outside the station ready to go up the hill. Not sure how long we waited but they called us back and probably didn't fill half the train since most people left.

I said it to many members of the the staff that they were very fast and friendly. If I could tip them I would have.

I am not sure if Carowinds allows Customer comments for their staff but hopefully someone will see this and pass on my comments. They were truly amazing today.

^ That was me. Hey, I got video evidence of Steve saying it wasn't going to be used as a block, too :P I was pretty shocked when my train advanced out of the station before the train in front had even cleared the bottom of the first drop and we stopped there. Makes sense though to prevent people from freaking out if they had gotten stopped at the top.

It has been a few years since I have worked there but the goal in normal operation conditions was 44+. The first two years when the single rider line was in use were the best, and during the "competitions" (which we never lost) we used to do with Behemoth and Diamond back we would run at 50-51cycles per hour for two days which was crazy, our max was 53 cycles with 1,683ppl. I don't think any of the other B&M Hypers have ever operated at over 45 cycles, on the completion days we constantly ran 4-5 cycles per hour more than the sister parks. I think 54 would be possible on Intimidator if everything was perfect on the timing of the hour (we missed it by 10-15 seconds) however no more would be possible unless lift speeds and gate pressures changed. (the train can't dispatch until those crowd gates close which have been replaced by the saucers on fury)

It seems like the block design is better on Fury as we were constantly waiting on trains to roll around from the brakes or couldn't dispatch a train because a train was on the lift of Intimidator. So the lift base block is really big for cycles and Fury just seems to roll to the station from the main brakes faster.

They weren't doing a good job loading Intimidator (and most other coasters) on Friday. The guy at the top of the stairs wasn't putting people into rows fast enough. There were a few times when rows were empty. And why are they doing this on all coasters now? I rode Hurler and they had an employee telling us which row to go into. The line was starting to get to the bottom of the stairs and trains were going out half full.

My guess is that they are doing the whole assigned seating thing because they expect the turnout from Fury to draw in bigger than usual numbers this season. I think it will probably simmer down after a while and the ride ops will become less strict.

Oh I know. She was chewing gum.
